@CreativeSpoonie @wretchedsapphic I had no idea this kind of thing happened unless there was a specific reason because frank herbert's kids talk about the new dune movies

@mirrorbow @wretchedsapphic It’s not really that big of a deal. The show’s not based on his work, so it makes sense for there to be a total creative separation & nda.

very interesting to me that the takeaway from people is “omg do not rpf where he can see especially about his gf” instead of “do not rpf in general cuz none of you are normal about it and bleeds into how you treat these actual people and makes you incredibly homophobic”

@hudbunnies what did this tumblr ask even say 😭 but like how is that a source. it's just like blind items. people are like source: someone said it. we don't know who but someone said. you can really make shit up out of thin air and people will eat it up

@93SHAD0WS my sister got into them while they were in the military, it's so insane how they seemingly got so many new fans while not even being active

jojo⁷ is seeing bts 🪭
it really is crazy how bts went on a whole hiatus at their "peak", disappeared for nearly 4 years and came back more popular than when they left, this is the type of shit you witness once in a lifetime

@goldenlitlsmile makes me think of when anitta started making noise internationally and brazilians treated her as brazil's ambassador for better or worse, like every choice she made would shape how ppl outside would view brazil so she would be heavily criticized for sexualization for example

@goldenlitlsmile though I think there is a lot of truth to this, I think this is also partially because korea has never had anything like them so the country itself leans into it (but i think that's not mutually exclusive to what you're saying)

I actually wrote my thesis on this and the way Western celebrities can de-nationalise their activities but non-western acts (I focused on bts) can’t, as their activities are seen inherently as nation branding tools that present an answer to the western cultural hegemony

BTS shouldn’t be seen as cultural ambassadors for SK anymore than Taylor Swift is a cultural ambassador for the US or Drake for Canada.

@kitteewhysker I don't agree that people should have been mad at them if they were exempt btw lol I think its bs, I think they deserved it and they clearly do more good to the country outside the military

@kitteewhysker I honestly believe the only reason they weren't was that they decided they didn't want to. because, for part of the (specially korean) public, it would taint their imagine, like they were being unfairly privileged. so they decided to do it to avoid people being mad at them

@lakeaphrodites I wouldn't use the word privilege to describe it either (and haven't) a necessary even if unfortunate measure for protection =/= privilege

@weightyghosts0 @wermbraiin exactly. it's true that we don't know what goes on in people's lives, and that's exactly why I'll respect the information they want give me and not make assumptions. specially if those assumptions are just based off stereotypes and gender roles

@mirrorbow @wermbraiin They’re proving exactly why men have such a hard time showing affection to each other. Hudson and Connor were so open about what a healthy male friendship should look like, they said countless times that it’s nothing more than platonic love, and these ppl refused to respect that.

Connor and Hudson being joined at the hip at a large event means nothing romantic to me bc have you ever been at a big family gathering and you just hang out with that one cousin the entire time. It's about survival

being out happily with no loss of safety or privilege is ideal, but it's not a reality for many people and we have to recognize it's a necessary measure even if at least temporarily. that's why I'll always treat queer people's wish to not come out as sacred
