@ranxarad @MikeWingert Maybe cognate with Aramaic as liquid shift is not rare within it, but not with Arabic صبر as that would require a first tsade and سبر is said to be a borrowing from Aramaic

@MikeWingert Is this a loanword from Arabic? What was the word for patience in earlier versions of the language, such as Imperial Aramaic? Is there any connection to Hebrew “savlanut” where the liquids “r” and “l” represent a consonant shift?

The #Syriac (#Aramaic) word of the day is ܡܣܝܒܪܢܘܬܐ (msaybrānūṯā), "patience/endurance." Pronounced "msaybranutho." Job (Iyob ܐܺܝܽܘܒ) comes to mind when I think of patience and endurance. The idea is also related to "hope" (sabro) #Assyrian #Aramaic #Languages #WOTD
