@kunoichi_jp_ Traditions, culture, cultural values. Strange as it may sound, I feel very at home in Japan. I don't like loud noise. I gave another American a sharp look when he tried to have a conversation with me on the train.

I want to learn from everyone here. What part of Japan do you want to see more from a Japanese perspective? Culture? Daily life? Food? Traditions? Language? Travel? Japanese values? Your replies will help me decide what to post next 🇯🇵

@Shalom483714681 What's interesting about this is that in the Syriac Orthodox tradition, each prayer begins with a Qawmo ("Station" or "Standing"), which includes the Trisagion and Lord's Prayer.

In Orthodoxy, the pillar can even be regarded a kind of liturgical space. Famous pillar saints in the Syriac tradition are Shem'oun (Simeon the Stylite) the Elder and Younger, Joshua, Alypius, and Thomas of Tello. Help share their stories or list some others I'm forgetting.

In the Syriac Christian tradition, the pillar both a physical structure and a theological symbol. The Stylite (as Christian ascetics are called) practices an extreme form of withdrawal and embodies a visible axis between heaven and earth.

To everyone who is following my Aramaic word of the day: I just want to say how happy I am to read the conversations we're having about various similarities that emerge in languages you know or use. This is so much more productive than all the drama I see online! Thank you!

In my latest, I interviewed the Lebanese activist and co-founder of ChristianLebanon, @mariodayba, about #kafno. Kafno (or “famine” in the Syriac language) refers to the campaign of starvation imposed by Ottoman authorities on Mount Lebanon, the historic heartland of the Maronites and other Lebanese Christians, between 1915 and 1918. Dayba said: “The Ottoman authorities, under Jamal Pasha and the Young Turk regime, imposed and enforced policies that perished around 200,000 to 300,000 people. Nearly half of the population of Mount Lebanon died. “The victims were overwhelmingly represented by the Christian population of Mount Lebanon, especially the Maronites. Entire families disappeared. Villages were emptied. Children died in the streets and by church doors. "For our people, the word Kafno means the years when Mount Lebanon was slowly strangled between 1915 and 1918 under Ottoman rule, while entire Christian villages collapsed into death and silence.”

What do you know about Kafno: The Lebanese Maronite Genocide? @bulutuzay_ sat down with @mariodayba, the Lebanese activist and co-founder of ChristianLebanon, to discuss this forgotten genocide. idicenter.org/article/kafno-…
