I sat down with @moky_dokie and talked about his deeply personal relationship with Melee. But with a camera for once.

The obvious parts are:
- Huge barrier for entry and deterrent to playing the game (bad)
- Actively balances the game and especially fast characters bc it makes mashing buttons harder (good)
- I get to press more buttons (good)
Melee is a game that's balanced so much around its physical execution, probably way more than we give it credit for. You can be extremely good at the game by just learning how to consistently move fast and hit hard.
At the same time, the community has fetishized the difficulty of Melee to the point where we actively dissuade people from trying the game because they're told they need to spend months solo grinding on a $600 specialized controller just have any shot at taking a stock.
Yeah, you need to learn to L-cancel to be good at Melee. But you don't need it to play Melee. Millions of people had fun with the game casually without ever being able to, and I think you could still win games and sets without it, even today.

Very proud of my chat with @ZainNaghmi - He had a lot of great insights on his feelings about Melee & its future.

People are of course taking this in the worst faith possible thinking I’m on some puritanical bs when I just mean that when I see people that have this shit on their car I think Shame might’ve helped.

I don’t watch, but most Northern Lion clips validate a deeply held hot take I have: we should feel more shame. There are things you can enjoy that shouldn’t be criminalized but society would be better if people felt just a *smidge* more shame for like well done steak or w/e
