Donald Trump is clearly threatening to use nuclear weapons against Iran. He needs to be removed as President to prevent a catastrophe that our species will never recover from.

Approaching the latent space through art and science.

AI is bringing lots of opportunities, but also many risks and ethical dilemmas. Excited to speak at @BerkeleyLaw panel on language, AI, law, and animals with César Rodríguez Garavito, Jacqueline Gallant, Emma Crowe, and Laurel E. Fletcher.

"Agentic AI and the Next Intelligence Explosion" is a new paper just out in Science I co-authored with @blaiseaguera and @profjamesevans as part of Google's Paradigms of Intelligence research group. "For decades, the artificial intelligence (AI) “singularity” has been heralded as a single, titanic mind bootstrapping itself to godlike intelligence, consolidating all cognition into a cold silicon point. But this vision is almost certainly wrong in its most fundamental assumption. If AI development follows the path of previous major evolutionary transitions or “intelligence explosions,” our current step-change in computational intelligence will be plural, social, and deeply entangled with its forebears (us!)." This interpretation shifts attention from polished interfaces and fluent outputs to the hidden structures that make those outputs possible and structured in the first place.

We are mostly seeing end products, final outcomes, exteriors, in that sense. We are—deliberately—not seeing what is going on inside. Interpreting the latent space as a cartography, or as an architecture, changes that.
