Builder Sundays is growing.
Toronto. Montreal. Now Ottawa starting March 1.
Ottawa builders have been asking for this for a while… we heard you.
Every Sunday we open @Shopify’s doors to builders, solo devs, and early teams working on their next idea.
We’re also moving to weekly ticket releases so more builders can join.
Come build with us.

wild to see this! here's the backstory:
Shop aka Arrive was the first thing I pitched when my team got acquired by Shopify in 2016.
we were brought on to help with mobile, Shopify's weakness at the time. the plan was to build B2B tools but I had this idea for a consumer package tracking app I was sitting on.
the idea was to help millions of buyers track packages and give merchants a direct line to their customers after checkout. the "growth hack" was plugging a download Shop button into Shopify's thank you pages.
Tobi was an early believer and power user. now it's a top app every year around this time with hundreds of millions of downloads.
we were acquired to make a #1 app and we did it. feels good, man.

Vibe coded my first Mac menu bar app using Claude Sonnet 4. I'm calling it..."What Was I Doing??"
you type in your current task and it stares at you in the menu bar as a constant reminder. Perfect for when you tab over to check something, fall into a rabbit hole and completely forget what you were doing.

A core parenting belief of mine:
One of the most important things we can do for our kids is help them learn the power of their imaginations
But you have to contend with the constant onslaught of overstimulating screens
Here's 2 ways we beat screens:
First: reading, every day, no exceptions
In addition to the obvious benefits of being a strong reader, stories in books help open up the imagination and broaden our kids' worlds.
They expand their ideas of what's possible. My advice is start the reading habit as early as possible, and let your kids see you reading as often as you can
Second: audio stories
As an alternative to screens, we listen to audio stories (I even create one for 3-8 year olds that I'll link in a follow-up post). We listen to them together with our oldest son. You can SEE him engaging with the audio in a way he never does with screens. You can see his brain working. You can see him filling in the blanks in his mind.
Whereas if he was just watching a screen, there are no blanks to fill in. No imagining, no envisioning. Just consuming.
"Imagination rules the world"
- Napoleon Bonaparte
This quote is more powerful than people realize
It's impossible to build anything if you can't first imagine it
Everything ever created by man first existed in someone's imagination
Imagination is a muscle. And too much screen time just atrophies it.

Every superpower has a shadow.
Here's mine:
I care about crafting quality products and getting stuff done. But sometimes, I can move too fast instead of bringing people along.
Changing a shadow is very hard. You need to have 3 elements:
1. Desire to change
2. Self-awareness to recognize your flaws
3. Humility to seek feedback and listen
Use this table below from @nikhyl (VP Meta) to identify your shadow:
