𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐰𝐚 𝑁𝑑𝑖 𝐾𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑟𝑤𝑎 As the world marks International Women’s Day, Inkuru Library honors the memory of Kirabirwa, a woman remembered for her extraordinary courage in inspiring resistance during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Remembered as a voice that rose when hope seemed lost, Kirabirwa is the only woman so far recorded to have inspired resistance among Tutsis who had sought refuge on Gisanza Hill, also known as Mwurire Hill, in present-day Rwamagana District, Rwanda. Kirabirwa, together with Guido Karenzi, organized a resistance that pushed back several attacks before they were both killed in the final massacre on April 18, 1994, after facing overwhelming government forces, heavy artillery, and the extreme violence of Interahamwe militias armed with machetes and clubs.
