40 🇱🇰 civil service officers attended capacity development program at @NCGG_GoI from 9-20 Mar 2026 on the theme ‘Disaster Management’, complementing the disaster recovery process in Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ Participants engaged in expert-led interactive sessions covering key areas such as disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies; preparedness and EWS; response mechanism & field operations; Sendai Framework; building State capacity to manage disasters; post-disaster need assessment; and community involvement in disaster management. This was the 8th program under MoU between @NCGG_GoI & Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration signed in Dec 2024 for training of 1500 🇱🇰 civil service officers in 🇮🇳 over a period of 5 years. A group of 30 local government representatives from 🇱🇰 successfully completed a 10-day capacity-building programme at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, spanning Telangana and Tamil Nadu. The National Rollout of Vessel Communication & Support System under the PMMSY is emerging as a transformative initiative for enhancing the safety and security of fishermen across the country. By leveraging indigenous Space technology, the Transponder enables real-time communication and emergency response. The importance of this technology was recently demonstrated when a fishing vessel "MM-108" of Andhra Pradesh, which had drifted nearly 300 kilometres into the Deep sea due to engine failure, was successfully traced through its Transponder.
