BIG PEPCO NEWS: If you're angry about high electricity bills, the D.C. Court of Appeals just tossed out the Public Service Commission's last two-year rate increase (for years 2024-2026) for Pepco on procedural grounds. BUT: I'm told no immediate bill changes for D.C. customers.

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful Among the faithful are men who fulfill what they have pledged to Allah: there are some among them who have fulfilled their pledge, and some of them who still wait, and they have not changed in the least (Holy Quran 33:23).

The Quranic gathering was held in the presence of Imam Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and a group of distinguished Quran reciters, on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan [Feb. 19, 2026] at the Imam Khomeini (ra) Hussainiyah.

A lot of what he lists are things I experience in DC: -DC runs on happy hours -there’s not many diners but plenty of coffee shops with regulars -many SOTU, debate, Super Bowl, World Cup watch parties -many cookouts/picnics in Anacostia, Rock Creek, Lincoln, Malcom X Park
Lauren Wilford@lauren_wilford

I’m reading Bowling Alone and I’m laughing at the fact that every single one of the things Putnam lists a frequent point of “informal connection” is going (or has already gone) extinct drinks after work coffee with regulars at the diner poker night gossip with neighbors etc

What’s the US’s “fourth” city. NYC, LA, and Atlanta are pretty clearly the top 3 but the 4th is more ambiguous. I feel like the main contenders are probably Dallas, San Francisco/Bay Area, DC, or maybe Chicago

@ChiomaWard7 So would you like to clarify? Should ex cons be given jobs around our children?

This post is misleading and dehumanizing. Spent 2 hours at Bread’s mock interviews today just listening. We are approaching 1 yr of our Workforce Café, & I was reminded how brutal the job search is for returning citizens. Still, they show up for each other with community, hope…

@ChiomaWard7 She said that an ex con should be given the privilege to be around children. And absolutely not. That’s disgusting

@AOC Why do you pretend to be a normie? It’s ok to admit that you’re making literally millions of dollars of bribes, no one cares

Quality of dc gov services has regressed in serious ways recently. But exaggerating to say it’s an “incredibly broken system” exposes a deep misunderstanding of the problem. Also just doesn’t pass the smell test if you remember, or have cared to learn about, DC before the 2000s.

How is it that the DC area hasn't already been forced to spend many billions of dollars to stop these overflows? The EPA put the screws to most cities on this point - maybe the biggest unfunded mandate in American history.

Some context on the recent D.C. Water pipe break, which led to an estimated 243 million gallons of sewage going into the Potomac River. I'm told 600 million gallons of sewage and runoff flow into the Potomac every year, largely when heavy storms overwhelm D.C.'s aging sewers.

@Lance_in_DC @maustermuhle @aaron_renn I mean, there’s shangri la where money is no object and we can do everything, but then there is reality. Shouldn’t we instead focus our resources on fixing old infrastructure? Instead of spending billions on building a fantasy?

@notjustashell @maustermuhle @aaron_renn And note that the regional water authority is an independent body not reporting to either DC or MD (or VA) but mainly under the control of the federal government though funded by all.

@Lance_in_DC @maustermuhle @aaron_renn Correct me if I’m wrong since you seem to be very well versed in this and I am admittedly not, but with a limited and set amount of funds, shouldn’t we be more worried about fixing and upgrading 100 year old infrastructure instead of building new? You need to be to triage, right?

@maustermuhle @aaron_renn Doesn’t seem to answer the question. Instead of foo foo social justice initiatives, shouldn’t they be spending their money on actual improvements?

@aaron_renn D.C. Water has been working on the $3.8 billion Clean Rivers project for years now; it’s creating a large network of tunnels to hold sewage runoff so it doesn’t end up in the rivers. Last of the tunnels (under the Potomac) being built now, expected completion in 2030.

Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator Les Wexner has now admitted to members of Congress that he traveled to Epstein’s pedophile island and his Zorro Ranch property in New Mexico. The members implied that Epstein had direct access to Wexner’s wealth, which was the primary source of funding for Epstein’s pedophile island, his Lolita Express plane, and his child trafficking operations. Les Wexner needs to be arrested immediately.
