@RamzeeRawkz Hmm I don’t know. But I feel like it was more commonly said before the era of franchises.

@alicelowe But that’s good right? (Well maybe not the flashing strangers bit). It means you’ve put enough of yourself into it for it to be honest. I say this with intensifying feelings of the same as my short film premieres in a few weeks.

@pardeepsahota @FXTWO No it isn’t. It’s a horror film set in the UK, which is a country that has trees and buildings everywhere.
English

@FXTWO I’m sick to death of the whole fucking thing. If it’s got grass in it, it’s folk horror.

Studio marketing executives who talked with Variety agreed that the best defense against toxic fans is to avoid provoking them in the first place.
In addition to standard focus group testing, studios will assemble a specialized cluster of superfans to assess possible marketing materials for a major franchise project. bit.ly/3Bw1RrO

@firstshowing Maybe it’s a bit of all of this. But if the output is dog doo. The market will respond by not showing up the films. Much like GDT’s recent points. I think it’s not great in the short term as they embrace the latest fad (3D!!) and then it will bend back to what’s always worked.

I know this word for word, but just in case you haven't seen it. The immortal Harlan saying how it is.
The author, Séamas O'Reilly@shockproofbeats
My most watched YouTube clip of all time is this, in which Harlan Ellison dismantles the idea that artists should ever do unpaid work "for publicity". "...*I* should do a freebie for Warner Bros?! What are Warner Bros?! Out with an eye patch and a tin cup?! FUCK NO!!!"

@RamzeeRawkz Chazelle is a square & it’s a messy masterpiece, he snorts pure cinema. Whereas young PTA was snorting cinema AND lines of coke. It’s derivative sure (but so was Boogie Nights & Magnolia…it’s tradition!). It’s a big swing that I believe will mature beyond its current rep.

@JoyceCarolOates They did this everyman looking murderer in another Nic Cage serial killer movie, 8MM.
English

for instance, in "Longlegs" it would have been totally revolutionary to depict the serial killer as just looking like Nicholas Cage, as he'd looked in "Dream Scenario." a ludicrously freaky serial killer makes no sense since such killers have to blend in with the environment to persevere, as they do in real life--Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, the Gilgo Beach killer. this is a director's decision.
Joyce Carol Oates@JoyceCarolOates
yes, & I am particularly interested in how scenes build into movies-- actors within scenes, settings, tone, music, why the director chose to do X & not Y; to me, the actor is an artist within the art-work of the director, which is not the case with prose fiction where there is but ONE director responsible.
