Breakthrough
Breakthrough@brkthroughprize·
Singer, songwriter, and EGOT winner John Legend, and Co-Founder and CEO of Google DeepMind Demis Hassabis introduced a powerful story of science and humanity, highlighting the search for genetic causes behind neurodegenerative diseases like ALS and frontotemporal dementia. They welcomed Yentli Soto Albrecht, who shared her personal journey after inheriting a genetic mutation linked to both conditions. Her story underscored the impact of discoveries by 2026 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences laureates Rosa Rademakers and Bryan Traynor, whose work revealed the connection between these diseases—offering not only understanding, but a path toward future treatments and hope for generations to come. Watch the show premiere April 26 at 3 pm EDT at youtube.com/breakthroughpr…

Want to protect your vision as you age? While we often hear about carrots, there is a "superfood" for eyes that often flies under the radar: Goji Berries. In my latest blog post, I dive into why these small berries are a heavy hitter for ocular health. Specifically, Goji berries are the highest known food source of zeaxanthin on the planet. Your macula—the part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision—contains high concentrations of zeaxanthin and lutein. These pigments act like "internal sunglasses," filtering out harmful blue light and fighting oxidative stress. Since your body can’t make these nutrients on its own, you have to eat them! In the blog, I also cover: The "Macular Sunscreen": How lutein and zeaxanthin protect against age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The Bioavailability Secret: Why eating certain nutrients with healthy fats (like beef tallow or coconut oil) is a game-changer for absorption. Top Eye-Protecting Foods: From leafy greens and egg yolks to the incredible benefits of wild-caught salmon and beef liver. The AREDS2 Formula: What the research actually says about supplements for slowing AMD. Your eyes are the window to your health, and what you put on your plate today determines how well they function tomorrow. Read the full breakdown here: thehealthyrd.com/the-best-foods…

A note on DMs — I’m sorry. Genuinely. I know some of you have been waiting weeks, and I know what it feels like to send something vulnerable into the void. Here’s the honest picture: I get hundreds of DMs. Many are from cancer patients or their families, and those I prioritize, always. WHERE I can help, specifically, it is my duty to help. WHERE I can see someone, I will not bifurcate my attention. I 100% everything I do and that’s what works for me. I’m 26 and someone who solo founded a year-and-something-old early-stage company between labs and countries and fundraises. I tried to run on no sleep in the beginning and it affects the business side of things. So I take care of myself now just like I take care of my team. @bryan_johnson taught me: sleep above anything, FOR the company, not for myself. I do not YET have an assistant because every dollar has been in the science. I have an incredible team to manage. I’m one person, really trying. I also have a rule I won’t break — I can’t half-ass a conversation. If you have my attention, you have all of it. That’s why replies are slow, not because I don’t care. The caring is actually the bottleneck. If something is urgent, @ me and I’ll find it. I’ll get to you. Thank you for your patience with me. 🤍
