see i don't think rachel reid was writing shane as the villain but i do think she is careless when it comes to him. saying he’s the best player and then refusing to show us his big moments, the belittling way she wrote him in tlg, the way she talks abt his leadership skills…

@aliassteph90 I want to add, Ilya has joked about JJ being the actual captain of the team. On its own it's a nothing joke, but considering how TLG played out it makes the reader wonder, you know? If there's truth to that.

@pinggwinbear @looneyhudcon I think teaching young kids drills vs professional hockey players is a different skill set, which is why it would have been nice to see Shane as captain in Montreal.

I always read this but I’m also always confused how we came to this conclusion since Rachel never once showed him as a captain. It’s sad that we have absolutely no idea on how he captained his team because it would definitely play on what would change after he came out to them

@aliassteph90 I know that, but it's also the only bit of leadership we have for him. Like there isn't a lot of details for Shane and what we do have can be used against him.

@valedecem_ Like Shane can not have enjoyed being captain and feel relieved about it. But...why does his character have to not have enjoyed it? Can't he have been good at it too and liked it?
They're rivals, so why can't they be equals and have a story that works around that? 🤔

It’s not about Shane not being captain or changing teams. Of course it wouldn’t be better with a homophobic team that doesn’t trust or respect him.
The issue isn’t even about Ilya being captain but about Shane’s FEELINGS about it.

Y'all love misinterpreting things. The point isn't Shane leaving captaincy for Ilya but happily doing so. Ilya struggled to adjust in a losing team and missed winning. it literally contributed to his depression but Shane who breathes hockey is just happy to watch Ilya captain and
