The scale of Lewis’s victory confirms what I’ve long suspected. Yes, he’s mobilized lots of new people. But he’s always had plenty of support among longtime and normie New Democrats and really isn’t the “divisive” figure some have tried to cast him as.

Today, the federal New Democratic Party selected its new leader. It is clear that the direction of the federal party under this new leader, someone who openly cheered for the defeat of the Alberta NDP government, is not in the interests of Alberta. Last year, Alberta’s New Democrats voted overwhelmingly to make membership in the federal party optional. Many thousands of our provincial members, including myself, are not members of the federal party. We are a big tent and welcome the support of people who vote for every federal party. We believe in Alberta and we believe in Canadian energy and the good jobs it creates. We believe in more pipelines and in reducing emissions. We believe in strong public services and a strong jobs-driven economy to help pay for them. This is what we are fighting for every day. Albertans deserve federal leaders who understand the importance of Alberta and our essential role in the federation. Our focus is not on what the federal NDP says or does. Our fight is with Danielle Smith and the separatist UCP. Albertans deserve a better government, and we are here to be that better government.

I can't believe this is not a bigger story, Ukrainian intelligence has reported Russian military intelligence fed Iranian military targeting data for the strikes that resulted in multiple service members and aircraft being destroyed in Prince Sultan airbase in Saudi Arabia.

I am ashamed to admit that I once gave Viktor Orban the benefit of the doubt. He was once a brave young anti communist activist who represented the idealism of the post Soviet era. Early in his government, he led important conservative reforms, and offered a much needed counterbalance in the EU to the Brussels elites on uncontrolled migration, woke extremism, etc.. I have friends who have served in his government who I believe to be decent, principled people. But in recent years he has morphed into a lackey of Moscow and Beijing. His obsessive attacks on Ukraine are odious. He is pathetically clinging to power by demonizing the poor people of Ukraine, victims of Putin’s murderous war to restore the Russian Empire. He has tragically become what he once fought against: a corrupt authoritarian. Hopefully the proud Hungarian people will soon end this humiliation.

So Trump puts a tariff on Canadian aluminum... Which leads to Canada selling most of it to Europe instead... Trump instead imports it from his dictator buddies in the Gulf, and now that's cut off... And now there's nothing left to buy from Canada lol

And maybe worst of all, the tariffs have pushed Canada - a massive aluminum producer, close ally, and member of the US defense industrial base! - to sell less to US firms and more to others, making America more reliant on... Middle East producers now hit by the Iran war. /6
