Today's historic photo of the day: Exactly Forty years ago today, EMD diesel loco X34, long end leading, heads a Geelong-bound VLine passenger train through Werribee, Vic, March 22 1986. Since 2015, trains to Geelong and Warrnambool have run via Wyndham Vale rather than Werribee.

A Tesla driver turning left into a side road across my path as I'm walking across the side road at the intersection is about as stereotypical of Tesla as you can get. But the truth is, they're probably no worse than drivers of any other brand of car.

@trashyhonky Years ago, it was normal to have to walk through clouds of smoke in the streets (and inside). Now it's rare enough to be notable. Worst now is when walking past city office highrises in mid morning and mid afternoon when smokers congregate in doorways and on footpaths for smoko.

@DirkBermingham @LachlanB_ It's proprietary, and more expensive to install than standard overhead wires. It remains to be seen how reliable it turns out in the long run - or for that matter whether the manufacturer will support it for the lifespan of the infrastructure.

Electricity not my strong suit (obvs), so explain to me like a 6 year old why people don't get zapped by the third rail when they cross the street but it can carry huge amounts of electricity to the tram just fine? 🤔

Making my once quarterly cash withdrawal at an ANZ ATM, a 60-something bloke at the teller window next to me says "Yeah five hundred thousand. ..... And why did that lady get to go ahead of me in the line?" These are the true blue Aussie values we are trying to preserve.
