Hello and welcome to @raisegeneration 👋🏼 This is a new account, run by me, @drewb, with some ambitious goals for safety on social media. I feel pretty lucky to have been involved in campaigns in recent years around making social media safer for everyone. From my TEDx talk, to publishing research, to lecturing at universities and the odd TV appearance, I've found that my work on raising awareness of the need for change in social media has been some of the most rewarding work I've done. That's why I've created Raise. It's a movement that I will be launching to bring about change, to make social media safer - especially for the next generation. Raise stands for Responsible Actions In Social for Everyone, and it will involve education, media work, and volunteer efforts to harness as much support as possible to bring about the change that's so important. I'll be looking at ways to make content safer, education on how to protect yourself on social media, regulation reform, the latest data and trends, detoxing from our screens, and general awareness raising around staying safe in the social media age. I also have the privilege at work that I am able to volunteer a portion of my time to causes that need help, as all my colleagues at @battenhall do. We've helped charities, individuals, we've carried out fund raising, and we've published research on the newer and as yet unexplored spaces online. It's from this' 20% time' as we call it that I will be running @raisegeneration, and many of my colleagues have already pledged to get involved too.
