@villi Interesting statement, not sure I concur. There def can be some CoS who are running the actual people, but most I’ve seen have little to no personnel responsibility and are incredibly effective force multipliers for whichever exec they work for.

You know a company is slowing down, becoming bloated, and bogged down in politics when the CEO and execs start hiring a Chief of Staff. That is not a thing. You are the Chief of Staff.

Spent the weekend in my small rural hometown near Chico. Noticeable drop in active Trump flags flying (interesting). Huge lawn sign battle going over Prop 50 yes/no advocates (expected).

@hubermanlab @grok what’s a good way to get an interactive summary of this podcast, something that can give me the highlights and let me ask questions to go deeper into certain parts. Is there an AI tool for that?

Me again. Request. If you're reading this, could you like this to confirm? I'm (still) honestly wondering how many people are still here, and I don't much believe the metrics I'm getting from Twitter.

Set aside the privacy concerns, I am actually quite excited about walking into a bar and asking if I know anybody there or if I should know somebody there. Better yet, store everything I see and hear and help me recall every experience or memory I have ever had.

@EadrictheWild Rivian software does it really well as well. One of the true differentiators in EVs is the software for sure.

@cyantist For sure do Bay to Tahoe and anything along the Pacific Northwest. A northwestern circle will probably be the most majestic scenery you can find. But will anyone wanna talk among the landscape?

Update! It looks like going to NYC is too complicated, so now we are looking into: 1. leave Chicago and go north to Seattle 2. Come down the pacific coast 3. Have a one day and over night conference on the ground near Emeryville 4. Head back to Chicago via Denver on the Zephyr So, basically a big circle. A trip like this takes ONE YEAR to plan, so keep that in mind. We wouldn’t be leaving until the weather is optimal and over one year from today. A lot will change in AI by then, but I still think we should call this “Worlds Collide: The Ride of a Lifetime” - trAIn Con. We can learn a lot about our future by delving into the history of the past. What happens on the train will be broadcasted as well, so we will have virtual tickets for those who can’t make it on the train itself. Anyway - getting a LOT of interest, but if this resonates with you - send me a note on the “contact me” form on my personal website in the bio. Looking for speakers, sponsors, unique ideas to do aboard, and an idea of how much you’d be willing to pay to be on the train (helps us determine which cars we can get). Need all of this to figure out which configuration we will need to do. We plan on having an observation dome (or two!!) All aboard!! Choo choo!!
Cyan Banister@cyantist

So topical! Going to kick off a call for papers and speakers for the first coast to coast trAIn conference, leaving from Emeryville, stopping in Chicago to look at art and ending in NYC. If there is enough interest, we will do a return trip. Stay tuned for the early gauge of interest registration, but if you would like to speak, be a sponsor or learn more - please fill out the form on my personal website linked in my profile. Hint: the rooms and train cars are this beautiful and historic. We will also have use of the Amtrak cars, with lower priced options. An endeavor like this is HARD and not for the faint of heart. To make a moving conference takes the right partner and I’ve found an amazing one who has the deepest knowledge of trains I’ve ever found. There will also be opportunities for funds and companies to hitch their own train cars on. I don’t know if I can do this more than once, so we may even do a documentary of the whole thing.

@villi I believe there will continue to be a large need for scale expertise, compliance etc (especially for B2B), and yes GTM that AI will augment not replace. AI will make teams more efficient, but for the largest ideas I think it’s a 25% reduction instead of a 25% replacement.

One of these beliefs can be true, but not both: 1. We will have $100M+ ARR companies run by very few people. 2. AI will significantly increase the velocity of software development and enable rapid product development at marginal cost. I need to write a blog post on this. In short, AI will either lead to rapid commoditization at the application layer (including agents) enabling any good idea to be replicated within minutes, rendering investment in R&D uneconomical. Or, building startups will require just as much capital (or more) as it has in the past and startups will have to invest significant resources in R&D and GTM to stay ahead of the intense competition fueled by AI. I don't know where I stand on this, but I definitely worry about commoditization at the application layer.

@villi My niece works in the billionaire yachting industry and it seems that the NDAs are super-tight plus lots of mid-directing shell company ownership.

Last summer I saw a really fancy yacht (at a random place) and was curious who owns it. It is one of a kind. I have tried to ask every LLM service to identify it, and they all fail. Why is that?

@EadrictheWild Totally worth it. Plan a couple of hikes through the utterly alien landscape. Also consider taking the kids to the regular rodeo just outside of town.

Zelensky is right. After all Ukraine has endured, the deaths and disruption of civilian life. Now comes the United States to insist we know what's best for them. How long before Lying Putin insists that Poland and the Baltic States also belong to him? Fuck Russia.

@danieloleary @TimothySmithSF I’d like to understand what the diff numbers in this chart mean, as it still says taxpayer contributions are only $17.5K, which is tiny. Overall for as much as the Clinton Global Initiative does, $84M isn’t a huge number, I’m sure it’s published on their website.
