Some of my close friends who serve as Ministers and MPs were very confident of a positive outcome for the government last election . However, they never considered the possibility of defeat. Even now, they seem unsure about what went wrong yet many of us clearly understand what happened and why the outcome turned against them, despite a mountain of money being spent across every corner of the Maldives.

On 4 April 2026, Maldivians went to the polls to elect local councils, women's development committees, and express their views on holding the Presidential and People's Majlis elections concurrently. I extend my congratulations to all those who secured seats on the councils. 73% of eligible voters participated in the vote - the highest voter turnout recorded in a local council election to-date. And a clear reflection of public trust in the institutions. The Elections proceeded smoothly. This is a reflection of the Government's continued commitment to strengthening democratic governance and stability. The Government, under the guidance of President @MMuizzu will continue to prioritise inclusive development across the country.

Look at PNC since they came to power. Now look at MDP the moment they secured the council wins. Different parties, diffenr colors, same pattern. Neither seems driven by the country’s interests or the well-being of its people or even the common party members. In the end, it all comes down to a small circle of leaders, locked in power struggles and chasing control.

An alert has now been issued and everyone is rushing to MDP office as we speak. Ibu has also been contacted and he said this cannot be allowed to happen as it would damage the party a lot. Some key figures are also unaware of what’s happening or who exactly is giving Gapo the orders.
