Most of y’all will be mad at me, but I’m gonna say it anyways:
We’re a strong, resilient people. But we are also a reactive & deeply insecure nation.
Our responses to the Ukrainian grain incident, and plenty since October 7, haven’t been grounded in clear judgment, but as emotional reactions.
“Ukraine votes against us at the UN”
“Ukraine has a dark history with Jews”
“Ukraine has neo-Nazi problems”
That might be true. But none of it is relevant to why we purchased the stolen grains from Russian hands & what should we do next. These aren’t logical, calculated responses. They are emotional outbursts.
Too often we react like we’ve been stepped on - sharp, loud, defensive. Sometimes we’re right, sometimes not.
But it ain’t matter. Because these are signs of insecurity.
And sure, it’s understandable. After October 7, with the feeling the world’s abandoned or even targeting us, people get aggressively defensive.
But we can’t build a future on victim mentality & resentment. They never lead men no where. It only pushes away friends, and plays right into the hands of people who want to see us isolated.
The Jewish People’s existence is far more than a reaction to the world. We are a proud, confident People, living in our independent country.
Act like it, not with emotion, but with clarity, with wisdom, and with steady hands.
