I noticed that now with the GPT-5 mini, vibe coding works again. Claude 4.5 is still better, but its access is limited with GitHub-Pro.

@robertlufkinmd I think this was the sugar companies succesfully pushing the narrative "fat=bad and sugar=good". But please correct me if this is wrong.

@ylecun Me doing a PhD, not able to reproduce the paper I am interested in due to closed source software (looking at you @ylecun) or because the results were wrong, am supporting this distrust. Scientists I distrust even more than the "science".

BREAKING NEWS: The 2024 Noble Prize for Peace has been awarded to Drake and Kendrick Lamar, for musical methods of conflict resolution. The UN has predicted that by 2050, most international conflicts will be resolved with diss tracks in place of military force.

@WhiteHouse Diagram without the source and data if you could have provided it is very close to misinformation. There is no way to easily verify this.

@Strandjunker Milder version of Nazi ideology is always before real Nazi ideology. But mild versions of Nazi ideology do not always lead to real Nazi ideology. You conflated necessary conditions and sufficient conditions.

@elonmusk People who devote their life and career to the study of science, society, and human history care about reality, about truth, about people, don't care much about money, and don't believe in dogma and conspiracy theories. What a surprise!

@RichardHanania I still love it. I don't do it for the career. If I lose my position, I don't care. For the time they let me do research, I am happy. Very sad people experience it that differently. I hope they find the help they need and make healthy life decisions from now on.

Strong evidence showing that getting a PhD is extremely bad for your mental health. A new paper uses Swedish medical records and matches them to the full population of PhD students for which the authors could get gender and birth year data from 2006 to 2017. After some exclusion criteria, they end up with a sample size of 20,085 individuals. The paper compares PhD students to those who have masters degrees and don't start a PhD program. Before starting a PhD program, people who stop at a masters and those who go on to seek a PhD have similar rates of psychiatric medication use and hospitalization. A few years into a PhD program, however, 40% more individuals are on psychiatric medications, before the number falls off as people leave or finish their studies. You see the same pattern with psychiatric hospitalizations. PhD students are up to 150-175% more likely to be hospitalized after starting a program! These are incredible numbers, too massive to be the result of chance or a flaw in the methodology. This is comparing the same people over time. If you're considering a PhD program, and the terrible job prospects and waste of time aren't enough, here's yet another reason to stay away.
