Do I need 50 wooded acres to just absolutely disappear from society?

@jeffblankenburg @sempf Then you need 2-3 acres and a bunch of trees. Way easier. 15-30 minutes east or south east of your house is a good direction.

@rkierner @sempf Oh, I'm not a "going off the societal grid" guy. I just want to choose when I see people.

@jeffblankenburg @sempf To completely disappear, you need way more than 50 acres. You can maintain a functional sustaining farm with an acre but you still need utilities. If you want to live off the land 100% you probably need a few hundred acres with a variety of attributes (water, wood, grasses, etc)

@sempf I feel like I can get 45-60 minutes outside Columbus, where I won't see another soul. Move to space internet and solar power. I still want modern, but I also love the woods.

Dangerous patterns of problem solving: 1.) compartmentalization - assuming there are no side effects when you take an action about something. 2.) oversimplification - saying something is “just a … communication / people / technology “ problem.

Thanks to COVID, nearly all of my holiday plans have been cancelled. My immediate family and I are are fine, but friends and relatives have tested positive with mild symptoms. It's looking like another long isolated winter.
