@TurtlePrincip AI companies would love if political capital was wasted on passing a meme "AI water usage bill" instead of anything serious. People online will get their fun day on twitter thinking they owned the AI corpos while they sit on their private islands having a laugh.

@TurtlePrincip I dont think it does that at all, it just distracts from the real issus, companies and political movements used this tactic succesfully in the past to make their opposition weaker.

@romlib_ If it's a psy-op, it's not working very well. "AI is sucking up all the water" has actually penetrated into the public consciousness of the offline and I've heard multiple people say it's part of why they hate AI.

@basedball_ @1nterchangeable @ChadNotChud That's just not really by my assesment and that of many others, try using gemini 2.5 pro or o3-mini or claude 3.5 from march-april 2025 in opencode, then try gpt 5 from september 2025 then try opus 4.6 1m or gpt 5.4 xhigh fast 1m from last week. The difference is massive.

@romlib_ @1nterchangeable @ChadNotChud Effectively all recent LLM progress has not been the models themselves, which have largely stagnated, but applying the models in creative wrappers like claude code

increasingly clear that LLMs are just a Normal Technology cool and useful, but fantasies that their rate of improvement will continue indefinitely are just that like everything, we’ll reach a point where further improvement requires a qualitatively different approach

The most astounding thing about the popularity of people like Trump or Hasan is that they aren't remotely intelligent, pr friendly, or sophisticated with their propaganda. They just regularly say the dumbest, most deranged, and easily disprovable things and it doesn't matter.

So I guess grok is just forever pay walled behind Elon's stupid scam subscription? Probably because people were using it to refute MAGA nonsense too often.

@ChadNotChud @1nterchangeable I find them hit or miss, but way more reliable now for hard stuff. They are great for researching other codebases, too so if I guide them towards how to architect and code something they tend to do a pretty good job, both in high level web and mobile apps and low level C code.

@romlib_ @1nterchangeable LLMs are still quite bad at, like, most of my job, and while there have been huge strides around the periphery (like I said I use them all the time) I’m deeply unconvinced at their ability to do complex reasoning

@a2_incognita Do they allow bypassing this completely with adb? If that's the case i feel like people complaining about this have even less of a case.

@hiddenreplies12 That they just put some in some basic limits to save normies from scammers while still enabling powerusers and devs to use their devices how they want seems like exactly what I'd want. Im glad they didn't go the Apple route. I feel like hating on this approach is misguided.

@1nterchangeable @ChadNotChud I was curious what made delaniac tweet this since I feel like he has been using them extensively a lot too, so maybe he knows something I dont. It doesn't seem implausible to me that LLMs stagnate, but my priors just dont go that way right now.

@1nterchangeable @ChadNotChud My entire job is writing code with LLMs now, it wasn't a year ago. I've been coding for over a decade, and I've seen plenty of other very experienced people use LLMs over the past year and notice this improvement directly. So yeah, the massive jump feels very real to me.

@1nterchangeable @ChadNotChud I am not knowledgeable enough on the underlying science to have a strong view one way or another, but I feel like people online were arguing this last year and since then we had massive jumps in performance, and researchers working on this seem confident the growth will continue.

@romlib_ @ChadNotChud They've already scraped all the available data. The recent gains came from post-processing and RLHF, with clear diminishing returns once you factor in how pervasive benchmaxxing has been. The fundamental flaws of the models are still here and, absent a breakthrough, will stay.
