I completely understand where you’re coming from, but for a lot of gamers physical discs are the only way they could afford to play games because they could get them secondhand. You can also give games to your younger siblings Which is a great way to introduce them to the games you were playing. Most importantly though, as we saw from PlayStation this past week, if the media we buy is only digital, it can be taken away from us at a moment’s notice with no recourse. Imagine that, one day your entire library of games could be deleted overnight because technically you don’t own it.

And THAT ladies and gentleman is why PHYSICAL MEDIA IS IMPORTANT. Cause you may never know when the things you love will be taken off streaming one day. Class dismissed.

People don’t realize how much this could change the gaming market. When physical games disappear, it doesn’t just affect collectors. It affects the entire ecosystem around gaming. Retro game stores? Many of them survive because people still buy, sell, and trade physical games. As physical media declines, some of those stores will have a much harder time staying open. Collector’s Editions? If everything becomes digital, what’s the incentive? Are people really going to spend $200+ for a few digital cosmetics and a downloadable license? A huge part of what made those editions special was owning something tangible. And don’t think retro prices won’t be affected. As fewer physical games are produced, the older ones become even more desirable. Supply goes down, demand goes up, and prices climb even higher. This isn’t just about preferring discs over downloads. It’s about ownership, preservation, accessibility, local game stores, collectors, and the future of gaming as a whole. There’s so much more at stake than people realize, and I don’t think the long term impact is good. #supportphysicalmedia

We saw how loud gamers got when it came to just one game (GTA VI) not receiving a physical release… Now, physical PlayStation games are at threat entirely, with production discounting in January 2028. How loud are PlayStation fans willing to become, in order to protect their right to own the products that they consume?

Also, some people don’t have good enough wifi to download whole games on console smh. I use to be one of those ppl until 2yrsago

This kills consoles. No hyperbole. The whole point of a console is to a special, in person experience with the games, going to the store, getting the disc out, and playing it forever to your hearts content If all consoles will be now is just PC’s with less features, count me out
