Here is my latest paper, published today in the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport and co-authored with Dr Emma Hilton @fondofbeetles from Manchester University. I would like to thank @OpenUniversity for their ongoing support of my research tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

@KarenFOrlando The positive is that the review is getting published in PPA, which is (arguably) a more prominent and prestigious place than the Notre Dame review. And that this stuff gets exposed.

@runthinkwrite Not really seeing the positive. Then again, those in academia do like to go back and forth over basically BS. The facts are transwomen aren't women and transmen aren't men.

Oh, this is a must-read. It's a bit frustrating, but there's a more or less happy ending. And there's a link to the review in question. And, again, it looks like Philosophy and Public Affairs are getting their act together. Hooray.

I was invited to review an @OxUniPress book on gender identity for Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews. You’ll never guess what happened next. 👇

Philosophy welcomes brutal book reviews. That is, unless they are critical of gender orthodoxy. @byrne_a's killed (invited) review is a case in point. Despite appearances, he is not taking his latest rejection sitting down. philosophersmag.com/on-being-rejec…

🌎 Eighty organizations are urging the International Olympic Committee to continue denying women fair competition in the Olympics, but female athletes are clear: women want a protected category. Our organization, along with many others across the political spectrum and around the world, supports the use of a noninvasive, accurate cheek swab to protect the integrity of women’s competition. It is the only reliable way to ensure women are not denied life-changing opportunities in Olympic competition and sets a standard for all international and national sport federations below.

More than 80 human rights organisations have urged the IOC to drop plans for chromosomal sex testing and a blanket ban on transgender athletes. The groups warn the measures would be a major setback for gender equality in sport. 📷: Getty Images insidethegames.biz/articles/ioc-u…

'Gender policing and exclusion harm all women and girls, and undermine the very dignity and fairness the IOC claims to uphold' intones Andrea Florence, keeping a straight face, along with a bunch of activist NGOs. 'non è giusto' says Angela Carini, a female athlete. I know which side I'm on. #nonegiusto

A notable paper led by David Handelsman finds that sex-based differences in athletic performance are present before puberty, even without differences in circulating testosterone during that period! @FondOfBeetles @Scienceofsport @coachblade @icons_women #google_vignette" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">academic.oup.com/jes/article/10…

Let’s hope the @iocmedia listen to their female athletes; the overwhelming majority of whom support a cheap and simple cheek swab sex-screening test The list of signatories to the letter, opposing measures to protect the female category, is not surprising

... (It won't propose a ban at all, it proposes to exclude males from the female category). If this is right, and it's universal sex testing, then, frankly, wonderful! Anyway, here's the statement from ILGA and their friends. ilga.org/news/olympics-…

The jig is up for these “80+” groups. If the “IOC's Protection of the Female Category Working Group” upsets you, sport is really not your thing. 👋 cbc.ca/sports/olympic…

@runthinkwrite @coachblade There will be a soundbite that appears to approve of the female only category, but will be ineffective. Hopefully PP stops dodging the trans issue and challenges Carney.

If, as is widely rumoured, the IOC does secure the integrity of the female category in sport, then (I think everyone agrees) there will be a 'trickle-down effect'. How far that goes, is an empirical, sociological matter about which I have only hunches, no special expertise. ...

I have no problem with you reading this statement, and I'm not sure it needs an immediate critique from me. It' laughable, desperate, and silly, roughly in thirds. You'll know, by now, how to parse the critical suggestion:

... but, thinking normatively, the places where it stops, where it is resisted, are less respectful of female sport than the IOC. And anyone who knows about the history of the IOC, from the misogynist de Coubertin onward, knows that that is a pretty low threshold.
