I was telling a friend who doesn't watch much baseball about how much I enjoyed the ABS system and he asked me "well, then why not just go full automated strike zone" and I really didn't have a super compelling answer beyond "the vibes would be off"

I feel like MLB should just go fully autonomous then. Called strike 3 now isn’t even the same bc it can just be overturned in a second.

There are moments that offer a pretty good sense that something new is going to work. This feels like one for ABS. The Cincinnati crowd’s reaction was thunderous. And the situation itself — twice it salvaged a bases-loaded opportunity. This system plays.

@OriolesStatist1 It's a non issue once calls are automated. It's only an issue because we still have humans making the calls and allow challenges. There will be no challenges to the automated calls.

Yea no matter what the "cutoff" is for being overturned, there will always be changed calls that are incredibly close.
So just get the call right.
I don't judge an ump for getting a call like this one wrong, but what's the point of the system if you ignore calls that are close

I’ll never understand why there are people who think pitches this close shouldn’t be overturned by ABS The ball is touching the zone. It’s a strike. The player should be rewarded for challenging a pitch that close and being correct.

@ChrisMurphyCT And it doesn't matter anyway. AVS appeals are a temporary step in the process to completely automate ballls and strike calls. The only reason it's not fully automated is because there's a union standing in the way.

@ChrisMurphyCT The goal is to get the call right. They got the call right with ABS. The fact that the manager went ballistic says more about his self control than ABS itself. Maybe the process needs to be tweaked but the fact is, after Opening Weekend, it's working.

@amazon Stop with the one-time pass codes for delivery. I get the point. But in an urban environ, where we can't get deliveries at home and have to use a central location (like a UPS store), the process breaks down. The UPS store can't get passcodes from every customer...

@MitchellRenz365 @Ravens Essentially, the Ravens used Maxx as a pawn and now every team in the NFL perceives he’s damaged goods and won’t offer what the Raiders want in a trade offer. So now his contract may be restructured and cost him $$. You can bet he’s pissed about this.

Remember when Ravens GM Eric DeCosta traded Jaire Alexander, informing them his knee was fine, when it was braised short rib? I’ve enjoyed interviewed DeCosta at the combine. He’s a true football guy.
But the history of Baltimore doing this with other players and now Maxx Crosby is pretty slimy.
Why would other teams in the NFL want to do business with Baltimore? Ravens should be pissed.
