I read a story one time that completely changed my perspective on what it actually means for a woman to protect her relationship. It wasn’t about checking his phone or fighting off other women; it was about protecting her relationship from the toxic advice of her own inner circle.
The story was about a woman who had been with her partner for a few years. They had a healthy, peaceful, and solid relationship. But the woman had a close female friend, someone who was perpetually single and constantly unhappy with her own dating life, who slowly started dropping little seeds of poison into the mix.
It was never outright hostility. It was that sneaky, subtle manipulation masked as "just looking out for you" and "knowing your worth."
It was the little comments. "Are you really staying in to cook for him again? You're acting like a married woman while still a girlfriend's" or "I'm just saying, if he really wanted to, he would have taken you to Dubai for your birthday like Sarah’s man did."
It was a slow, calculated drip of negativity designed to make the woman feel like her peaceful relationship was actually a cage of mediocrity, purely because the friend was miserable and wanted a partner in her misery.
One weekend, they were all out at a brunch. The boyfriend stepped away to take a phone call, and the friend finally got a little too comfortable. She leaned over, rolled her eyes, and said, "I seriously don't know how you deal with him being so incredibly average. You are way too pretty to be with a guy who isn't fully funding your entire lifestyle. You're settling."
The author of the post said the girlfriend didn't laugh or gently change the subject to avoid making it awkward.
She looked her friend dead in the eye and said, "The man you are talking about is my peace, my biggest supporter, and my family. He treats me with absolute respect, and we are building a life together. The only reason you think I'm 'settling' is because your entire concept of love is transactional, which is exactly why you're constantly exhausted and alone. You will never disrespect my man in front of me again. If you have a problem with him, we can end this friendship right now."
The friend was completely stunned. She immediately tried to backpedal, saying it was just a joke and she was "just being a girl's girl," but the damage was done. The girlfriend paid her half of the tab, waited for her boyfriend to walk back inside, and they left.
The most beautiful part of the story? The girlfriend never even told her man what happened at the table. She didn't run to him to brag about defending his honor to get points. She just quietly, permanently cut the friend off. He only found out months later when a mutual friend mentioned how fiercely she had defended his name.
It hits so hard because it highlights a brutal truth: A massive percentage of good relationships don't fail because of what happens inside the house; they fail because they are poisoned by the people outside of it. Misery loves company, and deeply unhappy friends will actively try to sabotage your peace under the guise of "empowerment."

Dear ADEMI,
There are Journeys a man can never survive alone.
There are Callings too heavy for one soul to carry without The LORD sending Help clothed in Flesh.
And in the hidden Wisdom of GOD, when HE decided that this little boy from OGBOMOSO would carry burdens beyond himself, HE brought Me to You.
Not Just as a Wife, but as Rest after Warfare.
As Warmth in Cold Seasons. As Strength in days when the weight of the Calling became too loud for words.
Many people see the Oil. Many hear the Messages.
Many celebrate the Grace. But only You know the Cost.
You have seen the nights when prayers stretched till dawn. You have watched burdens sit silently upon my shoulders while the world thought strength meant absence of weakness. You have stayed beside a man consumed by Visions, Callings, and the dealings of GOD.
And yet, you never withdrew your Love.
You stayed.
You loved Me in seasons where ministry left little room for softness. You understood the language of silence when words became too weak for the burdens carried within. You stood beside Me while Heaven forged dimensions within this house.
ADEMI, you are one of GOD’s greatest kindnesses to My Life.
There are days the sound of your voice brought peace to storms raging within Me.
There are moments your presence alone became a prophecy that I would not fail.
You are not just the woman beside the Apostle. You are part of the reason the Apostle still stands.
The lamps burning in this Commission have survived many winds, and GOD used your prayers, your tears, your patience, and your loyalty to preserve this Fire.
Who can truly measure the labour of a good Wife?
To love a man whose heart is constantly pulled toward Eternity… To share him with Nations, with Burdens, with Prayers, with people…
And still keep loving him deeply without complaint.
This is no ordinary Strength.
Today, as Heaven witnesses another year added to your Life, I bless GOD for the day HE brought You into My Journey.
Thank You for being Home to Me. Thank You for carrying this Vision with Me. Thank You for every whispered prayer over My head while I slept.
Thank You for being softness in a hard generation.
Thank You for remaining True.
Happy Birthday, ADEMI.
May GOD continually adorn your Life with Joy unspeakable.
And may the GOD who joined us together continue to make our Home a dwelling place for His Presence, His Fire, and His Glory.
Many more years with You, My answered Prayer,
My Strength, My Rest, and My Beloved.
With Deep Love and Honour,
Your Husband.

To be clear, by “group interview” I mean a situation where about 4 to 8 of you are put in a room and asked to solve something as a team.
Typically it’s a case study, followed by a group discussion and then a presentation at the end.
Meanwhile, 4 to 8 assessors sit on the side taking notes.
They are watching everything.
Body language. Who interrupted who. Who said thank you.
Everything.

This is me during my Shell Recruitment Day in November 2011.
1hr after the whole day group interview, I got the phone call I can never forget, “Congratulations, they all loved you. When can you start?”
If you have an upcoming group interview where they put a bunch of you together in a room and give you a task to work on together, then sit up.
I will tell you my secrets.
I don’t need them anymore and it can help you land your dream job.
They are what I used during my SRD.
I have given the same playbook to many mentees who used them to land their dream jobs in various companies.
So, trust me, this works.

The first project I managed in Shell was a $750K that I got because no one in the room wanted it - it was too small for them.
We were upgrading the Firewater System in an old oil producing platform seating in 3,000 feet of ocean water.
By the time we were done, the project ran into over $1M and it was such a success that it put me on the radar.
If you are trying to break into a new role, sniff around for the job no one wants and take it.
Like a deadly striker all you need is a half-chance to score.
Take those half-chances.

One of the quietest guys in my office resigned last month.
Nobody really noticed him like that. He doesn't wear expensive clothes, hardly gives his opinions, and doesn't even post anything on social media.
While others would post about their accomplishments on LinkedIn, this guy doesn't care about that. On few occasions he talked, he'd just say:
“Forget LinkedIn jor.”
People mostly saw him as one struggling guy trying to survive Lagos. Others even think he's unserious with his life by being quiet and not making new connections.
On his last day, our manager jokingly asked him:
“So where you dey go now? Hope say no be another small company.”
That was when we found out he was relocating to Canada.
A fully sponsored job, with a far better salary than almost everybody there. Accommodation was also already sorted.
The silence in the office that day was something else.
You see...
People don't understand that not everybody advertises their life while building it. And the fact that someone is silent or not flashy doesn't mean they're not progressing.
