@DReinertsen I'd love to see a longer writing on this topic. Do you post blogs/articles anywhere?
English

The dependency between two adjacent stages is of critical importance. In early 1980s, before Visicalc, spreadsheets were calculated by hand. An analyst's bad assumptions caused painful rework (done by the same analyst), so assumptions made carefully with strong supporting evidence. Visicalc lowered the cost of recalculation by 2-3 orders of magnitude, rework became cheap, and the quality of assumptions plummeted. When most of the cost of upstream mistakes, shows up in downstream stages, then upstream quality can disappear. Obviously, this is even worse if the upstream CPI is cost/unit of output and quality is left unconstrained. The system must, by design, discourage slop.

@DReinertsen I'd love to know your thoughts on the use of AI agents and the impact on flow. Do you have thoughts on flow in the age of AI?
English

@DReinertsen What I'm thinking here is that we have big chances to quantify impact. An obvious problem many teams are facing is that now reviewing generated code is a very busy queue while producing it is much cheaper.
I'm very much interested to explore better feedback mechanisms in place
English

At the moment, I am waiting for evidence to build. Usually, when a new technology produces a substantial productivity change in one stage of a process we naively assume this will to improve flow. Often, in multistage sequential processes, it creates a large mismatch of flows in adjacent stages. This, in turn, can lead to process queues which add overhead and break feedback loops. Local and system effects will differ.

I had a great time appearing on Sam Harris's podcast today. And I believe this link will allow you to hear the full episode:

@jstanier how do you feel about LLM summaries in one-to-one meetings?
I have a feeling that it really depends on the person and the topic. Sometimes, having this option on is a good way to focus on conversation and keep records but sometimes this can hinder sense of safety.
English

@fdosmither What a sad feeling. Having to use X for first time after a long time. Reminded me of the times when it was the common and easy way to see trends. Internet has changed so much... Anyway, yeah, I appreciate seeing the problem I was seeing wasn't just me. #dockerfail

It would be awesome if you could make a video on this topic as well.

"Despite clear evidence that carbon pollution is worsening heat and rainfall, the majority of breaking digital news stories about this month’s unprecedented weather don't mention the climate crisis at all."

@serroba It's not particularly about radiocarbon dating but I liked this book in the general background of radiocarbon:
cup.columbia.edu/book/hot-carbo…
Not sure I know of easily accessible material on calibration itself
English

@Heaton_T_J I wonder if you know of any resource beyond papers, that can go into much more details of techniques of carbon dating, accuracies, calibration. I'd like to be more educated on the topic. I have indeed read the intcal20 but I wonder if there is some form of book
English

Julian is free!!!!
Words cannot express our immense gratitude to YOU- yes YOU, who have all mobilised for years and years to make this come true. THANK YOU. tHANK YOU. THANK YOU.
Follow @WikiLeaks for more info soon…
English

@Heaton_T_J Yes. I have seen many. But I wish there would be a more in depth story telling. The calibration method with volcanic eruption for example, I think it's a great story. How people thought of the process of calibration over time and how to bring further accuracy
English

@serroba Although there are plenty of videos on YouTube which explain radiocarbon dating pretty well if you search/Google for radiocarbon calibration

I've said many times that the air-quality benefits of renewable energy -- the reduction in particulate & other forms of direct air pollution -- would, in & of themselves, pay for the energy transition. A new study bolsters the case: theguardian.com/environment/ar…
