1/3 Following my post about Mara , Marley Sianto @sianto7 , Assistant Director of Tourism & Wildlife, responded in detail to my post. I find it both detailed and focused. It is upon us, as the private sector, to cultivate a good rapport with policymakers so that we all work together and make @magicalkenya a better place. Marley also shared a beautiful video why Mara is a year all round destination and NOT just a migration 3 months destination. Thank you Jonathan & Angela Scott for the beautiful video. Every Tour Operator and agent around the world must watch this video. Please find Marley Sianto’s response below. I have opted not to edit anything. I have only added numbering so that you can follow the response with ease as a reference. 👇🏻👇🏻 Thank you, Mohammed Hersi, for your continued dedication to tourism and conservation in Kenya. Your leadership as former Chair of the Kenya Tourism Federation, particularly during the development of the National Tourism Strategy 2021–2025, helped shape the path we are now walking. ✅️1. In Narok County, we are actively implementing the seasonal pricing model prescribed in the strategy. While the recommendation allowed for park fees of up to $400, we took a more balanced approach, charging $100 in the low season and $200 during peak migration. This is part of our shift to a low-volume, high-value model that acknowledges the ecological fragility of the Mara. I always say, we must not love the Mara to death. Mara must live. ✅️2. Some of the recent commentary may not reflect the current situation on the ground. We recently received the title deed to the Mau Forest, enabling us, together with the Kenya Forest Service, to begin full-scale restoration of this vital catchment that feeds the Mara River and its network of tributaries. ✅️3. On infrastructure, we have graveled over 400 kilometers of roads within the reserve and introduced standadized road signage for ease of navigation and safety. The upgrade of Keekorok Airstrip is being undertaken directly by the county. We are also working in partnership with KeRRA to improve community access roads including Keekorok, Talek, and Aitong, among others, with direct financial support from the county government. ✅️4. Sekenani Gate is undergoing comprehensive redevelopment through support from the Tourism Fund, while Oloololo Gate is being upgraded by the county and will include a modern visitor information centre. Public washrooms have been completed at Purungat Gate, Lookout Point, Sand River, and Oloololo Gates, with more planned to meet rising demand. ✅️5. We have embraced innovation in conservation through the newly established Maasai Mara Conservation Centre. This facility serves as a hub for key species management, including rhino ear notching and tagging, and leverages modern technology for wildlife monitoring, including the use of tools like EarthRanger to support real-time tracking and informed decision-making by rangers and conservation teams. ✅️6. The Mara Research Centre, renovated in partnership with the Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI), is now the official hub for coordinating and housing all research conducted across the ecosystem. ✅️7. On community empowerment, we have partnered with the State Department of Culture under the Ushanga Kenya Initiative to establish a beadwork production centre. This facility will serve as a training, production, and marketing hub for community beadwork, empowering women’s cooperatives and improving access to international markets. ✅️8. We continue to support a fair consolation system for loss of livestock, injury, or life caused by wildlife, while awaiting national compensation processes through KWS. To ensure this is sustainable, we are finalising the Narok County Conservancy Bill, which will provide a legal framework for structured partnerships with community conservancies in mitigating human-wildlife conflict and streamlining consolations.

State Department For Wildlife Kenya
🌍 A Global Milestone for Kenya's Conservation Legacy 🇰🇪 We are proud to announce the official inclusion of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in the World Book of Records (UK) under the title: "World's Greatest Annual Terrestrial Wildlife Migration." This global recognition celebrates the awe-inspiring journey of over 1.5 million wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes across the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem — a true symbol of nature’s majesty and Kenya’s conservation excellence. As the State Department for Wildlife, we remain committed to supporting Narok County Government in safeguarding this natural heritage for generations to come. Together, we continue to champion biodiversity, promote sustainable eco-tourism, and protect one of the world’s most iconic wildlife spectacles. #MaasaiMara #WorldBookOfRecords #WildlifeMigration #MagicalKenya #plan2action #4wildlifeandpeople

This morning, I arrived at Narok Airstrip and was warmly received by Narok County Governor, H.E. @OleNtutuK for the launch of the National Wildlife Census 2024. This initiative aims to assess the status of wildlife in the Greater Masai Mara Ecosystem. This exercise marks Kenya's second national wildlife census, following the inaugural effort in 2021. #𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝟮𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲24

𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐅 𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐓 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐋 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒, 𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐈. Last evening, I had the privilege of inaugurating the Dusit Princess Hotel in the upscale Westlands neighbourhood, marking a significant milestone for Kenya’s hospitality industry. This auspicious event underscores Dusit Princess Hotel Residences strong confidence in our government’s efforts to foster a favourable business environment. Speaking on behalf of Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. @MusaliaMudavadi, I emphasized that the operation of Dusit Princess Hotel Residences in Nairobi reflects the robust measures implemented by H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto’s administration to encourage and protect investments. My ministry is committed to increasing international tourist arrivals through strategic marketing, repositioning Kenya as a premier global destination. Maintaining high standards in our hospitality sector is crucial, and our ongoing hotel rating exercise supports this goal.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE DEMISE OF JOSHUA CHERUIYOT KIRUI ON MT. EVEREST EXPEDITION We are all saddened by what happened to our son and brother, Cheruiyot Kirui on Mt. Everest. What we know: Cheruiyot lost radio communication with basecamp early morning of May 22, 2024 on his summit push. He was reported missing by his expedition company and immediately a team of rescue sherpas stationed at camp 4 were dispatched to the point of last contact. Cheruiyot's body was discovered at an altitude of 8,800m, 48 meters from the summit. Whereas it is not possible to determine the exact sequence of events, we know that Cheruiyot and his sherpa guide, Nawang Sherpa, took a fall. We extend our condolences to his friends, colleagues and the wider outdoor community. Search for Nawang Sherpa continues and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family in Nepal and pray that he is found. More information will be shared in due course. Thank you and God bless you. Cheruiyot's Family
