Gotta say it's pretty encouraging that 40% of last year's total global growth of energy demand was provided by renewables (+nuclear) : 4.91 EJ out of 12.3 EJ total. And that's including the drag from hydro.

Sorry, but democracies do not work solely around such a calculus. They function, thrive, and grow in a culture strictly respectful of a process ensuring all voices are heard and considered. The KMT and allies work to undermine TW democratic self-rule, not strengthen it. Why is that?
Angelica 🌐⚛️🇹🇼🇨🇳🇺🇸@AngelicaOung

@laorenchanna The KMT might or might not suck but they are in the majority in alliance with the TPP. Maybe it’s time for the DPP to note the “Democratic” in its name and accept that the people chose those reps and take the L when they don’t have the numbers.

This Interview cuts through the BS and doggedly traps the govt spokesman in his own logical contradictions. Of course the govt knows how many people have died, but the chickenshit leadership cannot admit they do not care.
Trita Parsi@tparsi

MUST WATCH @piersmorgan's been criticized by many for being biased against the Palestinians. Yet, I have not seen anyone destroy an Israeli spokesman as brutally as he does in this clip How can Israel know how many Hamas it's killed and not know how many civilians it's killed?

@donovan_smith @michaelturton The article ended where I think it should have begun. Effective energy transformation requires attendant regulatory pushes on the consumption and construction sides that transform behavior & economics

Imagine re-vamped urban spaces - Organized around pedestrian-only areas and parks - Connected by sidewalks and segregated bicycle lanes - Offering short-term on-street parking - Regulated by congestion-pricing schemes - Serviced by 'clean' vehicles for last-mile delivery
TaiwanPlus News@taiwanplusnews

Walking the walk. A new alliance of traffic safety groups wants to improve Taiwan's pedestrian infrastructure, pushing for better road design to bring down the number of accidents and deaths.

Vote counting procedure in Taiwan. I can't think of anything, a concept or procedure, whose operation and effectiveness do not fundamentally pivot on 'trust' –– trust that it will be done, trust by others to accept and support it, trust that it is done in good faith. Folks back in the USA who need a reminder of how an election need not be a shit show might take time for a short visit here and look-see.

Watching the ballot count in a polling station near the presidential office building. Results are being read aloud and ballots shown to the public, a procedure called chang piao 唱票 and liang piao 亮票 in Mandarin. 🗳️🇹🇼

In response or maybe addition to this article from the BBC on the use of Taiwanese Mazu temples as tools to promote political annexation through cross strait exchange programs I’d like to offer another view. bbc.com/news/world-asi… 1/ 🧵

@taiwanplusnews Where are the EPA and the other "competent authorities" in all of this––and why is it left to volunteers to clean up the mess?

Disaster off Yilan. Volunteers handling a massive oil spill on Taiwan's east coast are struggling to get the mess cleaned up before it affects the entire ecosystem.

@michaelturton Terrible design, complicated, and ineffective. Frustrating to me is how the TW govt has a digital foundation in place to design a straightforward process to match up name to package, but clearly, one ministry can't possibly build on the work of another.

Once again my annual bow to the sense of humor of the person who named the customs app 'EZway'. Clearly an underappreciated comic genius

@taiwanplusnews Unless TW tackles the consumption side and outmoded urbanization policies, all talk about energy transformation and environmental protection is futile. Forcing conservation regulations and disclosure rules on the construction/housing industry would do more for TW than nuclear.

@taiwanplusnews "Nuclear" is not a plan--it is a statement. The KMT pushed "nuclear" as a wedge issue, and the strategy worked bc the DPP/govt did not articulate a plan. But Ko, Ho, and Lai only have vague policies. Taiwan should focus on making renewables a success and table nuclear for now.

@JuliusCezarrrr @imb39 @jburnmurdoch The analysis did not dig into the underlying causes of the underperforming labor market, but it built on studies that did. The high cost of doing business you mention might or might not be one, but that’s not central to the analysis.

NEW: we need to talk about UK graduate wages, and the idea that Britain sends too many people to university. American readers should stick around for the UK/US comparisons 👀 Let’s start with this: the UK graduate wage premium has fallen substantially over the last 25 years

@MKBHD Message Apple pushed: 'M3 provides meaningful upgrade for Pro customers on Intel and M1'. Apple still relies on M2 to drive rest of Mac line, including Air, which is positioned to compete with broader PC market.

Lots of silly graphs, but an immediate takeaway is that they're comparing M3 family to M1 family, not M2.

I disagree, quite thoroughly. This seems to place the origins of the current culture war over higher education at the hands of universities embracing a particular framework, when in fact what we are seeing is a symptom of a materialist and social shift. A thread: /1
Tyler Austin Harper@Tyler_A_Harper

This is what we're witnessing – the dismantling of public higher ed in conservative states – and we've created the conditions for what's going on at UNC. How did anyone think we could get away with being nakedly ideological for years without any chickens coming home to roost? 1/
