Without the fans…there would be no ticket sales, no television coverage, no sponsorship nor increased salaries. The day after losing 1-0 to Japan in a gallant, hard fought final of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the fans stood in the hot sun at Tumbalong Park waiting for an hour to cheer on their heroes and to let them know they support them no matter what. It’s a shame the players couldn’t share some of the same enthusiasm. It is completely understandable that losing sucks, but today was the day to say thanks to the fans. What’s the old saying, ‘Be humble in victory, gracious in defeat’? That’s the mark of true professionals. #matildas #afc #woso #gracious #fans

CSIRO have now lost more jobs under the Albanese Governmet than under the Abbott Government. We have to do better on research funding and backing our scientists. smh.com.au/environment/cl…

More than 60% of Australian medical researchers left active research roles between 2019 and 2024 because they could not make ends meet - while my costings from the Parliamentary Budget Office suggest the govt could more than double annual spending from the Medical Research Future Fund without any effect on its base level of funding. The government has to act on this issue in this year's Budget - for our economy and for our health. abc.net.au/news/2026-03-0…

This is a new low for the Vic govt. Quietly signing a $1.7 billion deal on SRL which must be paid even if the work is cancelled . Age has the report but it looks like a new level of arrogance. And we pay .💰

Is exercise safe for people with cancer? This question still limits the use of exercise in oncology. Clinicians worry about complications. Patients worry about doing harm. The result is that exercise is often diluted into vague advice to “take it easy” or avoided altogether. The evidence tells a very different story. Across hundreds of clinical trials, structured exercise has demonstrated a very strong safety profile in cancer populations — including patients with advanced disease and bone metastases. In the recent global INTERVAL-GAP4 trial in men with metastatic prostate cancer, participants completed a demanding program of moderate- to high-intensity resistance and aerobic exercise with high adherence and very few exercise-related adverse events, despite extensive metastatic disease and ongoing systemic treatment. The greater risk for many patients is not exercising at all. In Part 6 of my Substack series on Exercise as Medicine in Oncology, I examine: • how safety should be assessed • absolute vs relative contraindications • exercise modification for bone metastases, neuropathy and treatment toxicity • why exercise does not compromise cancer treatment intent Exercise in oncology is not a lifestyle option. It is a clinical intervention. Read the article here: profrobnewton.substack.com/p/safety-contr…

So petrol has gone up 50-60c a litre. That’s bare-faced highway robbery. Any petrol in Australian service station tanks right now is pre-war, bought and refined at pre-war prices .The oil companies are blatantly price gouging, ripping us off.

Gas companies that export 🇦🇺 gas are about to make windfall profits after strikes on Iran & we have no plan to capture that value for Australians. To fix this, we need a 25% tax on gas exports that would raise billions of dollars of revenue and ensure that when prices rise, Aussies benefit. theguardian.com/australia-news…
