@swamp_ist I have zero patience for pre-partum murder. To the gallows, or to live in a convent rest of life is sack cloth, fasting and penance, only thing approximating justice

Incredibly sad and important
Breitbart News@BreitbartNews

In her new memoir, actress Christina Applegate shares devastating diary entries from the time she got pregnant but sacrificed her child in 1991. The "Married with Children" star clearly knows exactly what's happening as she chooses her career over the life of the baby, who she says "to this day, I know" was a daughter. "I love this being… I always felt that if I ever got pregnant when I knew it was the wrong time, I wouldn’t have any problem having an ab**tion. ‘Oh, whatever. It isn’t even a baby yet.’ That’s bullsh*t. This creature’s incredible- makes me feel whole, safe." *** “I’m f*cking pregnant, and I’m k*lling my child on Thursday. I’m thinking, ‘Where the f*ck can I go to recuperate from m*rder?’" Applegate went on to write a poem to the unborn baby, asking for forgiveness. "Hello, little thing. I feel you every moment of my day. Such a tiny existence. Such an immense effect you have. You are a miracle. A tiny handed miracle. I love you, but you know your fate. It’s not your time. I know you didn’t make that decision, but it can’t be your time. You will live on, though. You will live through another. I hope you will forgive me, but I want you to know how you’ve changed me. You’ve opened my eyes. You’re letting me know something is more important than myself. But mommy can’t be with you right now. But know she loves you- more than any other miracle. And know that when it’s your time it will be your time."

As many of you know, I love Shibboleths. If you want to know “what kind of American” someone is, ask them about the Wild West. Ask maieutic follow up questions. This will reveal not only much about their politics, but so too their psyche and their souls.

@FlatCath @BVMConsolatrix Ironically, I actually believe having the blessed sacrament more obscure maintains the mystique and is therefore more interesting to the non-Catholic spurring inquiry; a road to conversion.

The Holy Mass is not a tool for evangelization. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is not a tool for evangelization. These are for Catholics.

@schmitt4545 @dvorstone Ideally yes. Though, in practical terms “get outlawed/executed or join a monastery” seemed to have worked out well. Certainly nobody should be forced to ed to enter.

@steppedenizen @dvorstone Yes, but only if they have the specific call from God. The monastery isn't a refuge for people too weak to live in the world, it's a place for those strong enough to live without it.

America need monasteries. What it has instead are cults and antidepressants. Life is hard, and not everyone is equipped to handle it, whether for temperament or aptitude or spirituality. We need somewhere that people can go and live simple but productive lives for as long as necessary. Our depressed and anxious shouldn't be medicated nor euthanized. They should be welcomed into a fulfilling life away from the struggles of modernity.

@shagbark_hick @rambler_rogue While a bit tangential, I do wonder if certain crazes like the zombie media fad of the late 2000’s/2010’s captured something in the zeitgeist. Enough people so unsatisfied with their hand of cards they’d be willing to totally reshuffle the deck as it were

This interacts with geography so neatly, doesn't it? 90% of the reason I've had a hard time leaving Upstate in spite of the endless list of reasons to do so is because we have a "SHTF-proof climate". Tons of water, no hurricanes, etc. But that only matters if SHTF... until then, if your ambitions are sidelined, your life is kind of a drag, people are rude, taxes are high -- is it really worth it? At that point you're just waiting for SHTF as a grand vindication of your instinct, you almost want an apocalypse just so you know you didn't waste your time here.

I fully resonate with this and now consider myself allergic to doomerism. I remember long ago someone said to me "...well you can't spend your whole life running away from earthquakes", and I had to really let that sink in. (I'd left Vancouver partly due to fear of earthquakes.)
𝙷𝚒𝚌𝚔𝚖𝚊𝚗@shagbark_hick

I'm coming to believe that doomerism is actually more of a pathology than anything else, and I say this as a lifelong doomer. Low feelings of self-worth drive people to constantly predict 'the end', I think, because apocalypse will either end them or give them a chance to prove their worth to themselves and others via survival. Either is a 'sweet release' from gnawing feelings of inferiority of the type Ted K wrote about. Show me a doomer and I will show you a shitty childhood, a divorce, an addiction, disgruntlement with one's job, or some other dark compromising difficulty in the emotional life of said doomer. Happy, sunny, thriving people are NOT "dooming" about anything really ever. True -- there are moments in the lives of complex systems that point to breakdown, decay, collapse, and so on. But when one is constantly LOOKING for those moments rather than looking for optimism, hope, dynamism, and so on, it's straight-up a kind of psychological malady. This is especially true when there's a subtext of "I see the doom that all these other sheeple are too stupid to see," etc. I say this with no judgement in my heart. As I said, I myself have been a doomer since I was a little kid, and there are real reasons for that that jive with my thesis here. I don't know a single other 'doomsday prophet' in my circles about whom I cannot say the same thing. It is what it is, but it is for the best to call it what it is.

@Empty_America Many people who learned french don’t have opportunity to use it. I think the 2% stat is misleading. North of state is Anglo. Half of state is black. If looking at just whites from south of state number go up. Likewise if you broaden to “semi fluency” number go higher

@Empty_America In everyday life you can’t get by with just French. In some pockets in acadiana if you only spoke French you could walk into a public place and atleast someone would be able to help

@AntelopeHill In 2016 block that broke for Trump the hardest was 18-24 non-college educated white males. The upper end now of that 18-29 range will have sure been a part of that phenomena

I don't like watching cologne reviews from young dudes who look half gay. Yeah, no wonder you think every classic men's scent smells dated. You have no T. Give me the old barbershop fougère and you can keep the generic mall slop.

I find it interesting that when real long-term "traveler" types finally stop moving, they tend to settle in fairly specific areas. Very few "go home" to Toledo or whatever. Tons of them wind up in Tucson, and I understand why. New Orleans too.

@shagbark_hick You’re correct! I know of them. I’m not nearly as involved in parish as many. Wouldn’t be insulted if don’t know me.Mostly go to mass say the obligatory hellos, leave and stick to my friend circle otherwise . Granted you only came Up once. Not a negative thing said

@steppedenizen Ah, what, at St Patrick's? Michael and Emily are why I am Catholic, if you know those wild Catholic hippies. Great friends of mine. But no kidding, the extent to which TLMers know me freaks me out sometimes. Opinions are often.. mixed. Coffee hour's always a hoot...
