Where the new @WSOP POY formula is misaligned with mixed game events (as currently structured): 1st in $10K Turbo Bounty: 1 day, $880k: 1177 pts 1st in $1.5K Closer: 2 days, $650k: 1128 pts 1st in $10K LHE + 2nd in $50K PPC: 8 days, $1.2M: 1126 pts x.com/studflopdraw/s…

Large field & high buy-in FTs are worth more In 2025, these were equivalent in POY points: - 7 / 16,301 in $500 Colossus - 7 / 336 in $25K NLH - 4 / 532 in $1500 NL 2-7 - 5 / 127 in $10K Stud In the new formula, Colossus is worth 1.3x $25K NLH, 1.7x NLSD and 2.3x Stud.

Min-cashes are worth much less Though they are no longer limited, min cashes now carry less weight. In 2025, a 9th place finish was worth 5x a min cash. In the new formula, 9th is worth ~9.7x a min cash on average (from 2.2x in the smallest field events to 21x in the largest)

Non-FT cashes are worth less In 2025, @shaundeeb earned 418 points for two deep runs (12/575 in $2.5K O8/Stud8, 31/1176 in $1.5K PLO8), equivalent to finishing 6/900 in a $5K NLH. In the new formula, the $5K FT would be worth 2x as many points.

Someone with an appropriate amount of time on their hands should see how the 2025 WSOP POY winner would have been with this new formula. That’s not me btw

Implementation notes: - A “busted” multiplier of 1 would mean that every non-cash earns POY points. We’re assuming this is a mistake and are not applying it. - It's unclear if the Final Table multiplier applies to top 9, official FT or unofficial FT. We’re applying it to top 9.

The new formula: wsop.com/2026-poy/ Overall, it puts more emphasis on FTs in high buy-in & large field events, and reduces the value of non-FT cashes. Online events no longer count, but all live cashes do (no more top 10 limit).

If the newly announced 2026 @WSOP POY Formula applied to the 2025 WSOP: @TheGrinder44 would be Player of the Year

A hidden symmetry in preflop theory: open frequencies by position are remarkably invariant across games. Whether it’s Hold’em, PLO, or even 5-card PLO, the HJ still opens about 22% of hands. Why do such radically different games converge to the same frequencies?

Where can we find the scoring rules for @WSOP Player of the Year? When I manually use the “WSOP Point Calculator” I get a different number for 5 of my results than is showing when I click my name.

Potential tweak to the 2026 @WSOP POY formula: a small point penalty for entering an event. - Levels the playing field for exceptional results with lower volume - New strategic element for players chasing POY to adjust to Incidentally, @TheGrinder44 would be POY with the adjustment this year:

For the criticisms of the formula: Grinder's 1/1 in Main & PPC (2982 pts) counted for more than Deeb's 1/2/2/2 (2861 pts) and slightly less than Glaser's 1/1/1 (3039 pts). @shaundeeb ultimately won because he didn't have a single min-cash in his 10 counting scores (Benny had 3 and Grinder had 4)
