@DrewPavlou America is too different culturally from the other anglo countries. It’s like a parody-land where everything is dialled up to 11.

When you travel between Western countries as a Westerner, you don’t really feel like a foreigner. If you travel from Vancouver to LA, you likely feel less cultural shock than travelling between Vancouver and Dhaka. Personally, when I travel to London or New York or LA, it doesn’t feel that different from travelling between Australian cities like Brisbane and Sydney. Each state has its own small cultural quirks, but it’s all ultimately familiar to me. The built form of the cities are so familiar, the cars look the same, the roads look the same, the restaurants largely look the same. And I’ve watched countless movies and shows featuring these cities since I was a kid, to the point that I know how to get around them almost by heart. But if I traveled to Jakarta or Lagos, I would immediately feel like a foreigner out of place.

Obviously there are big differences between the US and Canada in areas like healthcare, gun laws, etc. But there is a pretty widely shared common popular culture because both countries began as British settler societies. If I went to Toronto, how different would it be from other North American cities? It would ultimately be pretty familiar to me as an Australian, because our cities are largely built on North American lines. The cultural gulf between Toronto and LA and Sydney is ultimately a lot closer than say Toronto and Timbuktu

Nostalgia is a tool of fascism, a warm, idealized version of a past that never truly existed. Do not catch yourself longing for The Corporate Wire Mother. There was no Golden Age; only advertisements for products that you were too young to defend yourself against.

No it is not and in general we need to stop romanticizing ‘ugly-maxing’ in relationships as if that indicates that it is stable. This + sharing tmi about your bodily functions to your person is how you kill the romance. You should both want to look hot for each other, also if you actually go out and do fun activities together instead of sitting at home watching TV shows all the time this won’t even be a problem

Has anyone experienced masculinization on progesterone? I'm considering getting back on it but I'm afraid of that happening.
