@energystatsuk @OctopusEnergy @robhawkes Enjoyed the video. It didn't help that hardly any office/factories/retail were in operation. Can I charge my solar battery and EV up now on @OctopusEnergy for 5.2p or do I still need to wait until 23:30? Have Octopus launched the new 6 hour system & clarified how it now works?

Posted a short video about the crazy Easter Sunday pricing on @OctopusEnergy Agile tariff. With some thoughts about why negative pricing doesn't make any sense to me & why 12p solar exports don't either. Includes @robhawkes amazing GB renewables map. youtube.com/watch?v=ThR73A…

@TheLeeleemu I firmly believe the run to the cup semi last year cost Forest a UCL spot. If we go down it'll be because of the Europa, apparently Burnley under Dyche calculated that cost them about 8 points. Just need Wolves to not lose and Sunderland to hopefully beat Spurs.

@scottygb Restricting advertising has done a great job of screwing up British television and ultimately benefitted American giants. Harmed British TV but at least politicians protected kids. Oh, kids watch internet TV so actually it achieved nothing. Yay for virtue signalling.

What is clear is that the collapse of linear advertising (incl junk food advertising) has caused children’s television funding to collapse in the uk. With streamers not really interested in investment it is just the BBC keeping it going.

I feel conflicted with this one. Lower income households still watch linear television. Parents also trust linear television providing decent kids stuff. But younger viewers are clearly not watching linear tv any more - ask any kid about their habits.

In TV news, the CITV block on ITV2 is officially ending on 10th April. This really means the end of the iconic CITV brand that's been around for 42 years. Farewell CITV, this time for real. CBBC will have some of CITV's programming while the rest will be under ITVX Kids

@botzarelli A good question poorly edited by me! They're no more myths than what followed them. The ancient Greeks seemed more intelligent than founders of modern religions. TBF to Christianity, you can happily and safely have this conversation in their lands. Merry Easter to you too.

A good question too! We basically treat “dead” religions as being silly myths and stories rather than things believed as deeply and sincerely as religions which still have modern adherents. The spread of early Christianity in the Roman Empire competing against Jupiter et al is genuinely fascinating. But folks who believe in the self-evident truth of the foundations of their beliefs often don’t like thinking of the politics etc that got it to replace other religions! Romans didn’t one day wake up and go “duh, following the son of the god of the Jews is obviously the only true path!” Happy Easter!

As far as I can tell he was being a dick then and hasn’t since learned that was the case and instead seems proud enough of it to tell us now! It reminded me, apart from the dickishness, of a girl in my year at uni who was studying Theology. Our college was a religious foundation and back then still ordained ministers. She was very Christian and had to change course to History after a couple of weeks because she couldn’t bear the idea of 3 years of critically evaluating and questioning the Bible she believed the truth of.

@botzarelli Agreed. The person took the ugrad course just to prove a point and then did the same with the dissertation. Maybe not the most rational decisions!

@sunbeam007 That the existence of god is proven by the main theories of rationality. That doesn’t mean that it is irrational to believe in god or that god doesn’t exist, just that those theories don’t prove it or indeed attempt to prove it. Even though their authors were in fact believers.

@OldRoberts953 I had the privilege of announcing from the orig. broom cupboard at the TV late 80s and ear90s. It was a time of change, on the cusp of analogue to digital and the writing was on the wall for RP and SRP Standard Received Pronunciation. I was brought in for my northern accent!

@KateFantom @glynhudson @benrwright @energystatsuk Yeah I've got solar and two EVs and Go is certainly cheaper than Agile. We switched a year ago as we want the 7p overnight car charging. Not much point having cheap electric from Agile when the sun is out.

@nottslad2 @afneil Precisely. In the same way Reform are silly for not wanting more renewables. Transition sensibly, the more sources of power the better. And we need the jobs and taxes. Way too much dogma on the left and right.

@sunbeam007 @afneil I get the goal for renewables, but not the rush at any cost. Why not use the tax revenue to help pay for transition? It makes no sense at all.

So producing your own oil and gas does nothing for energy security. I see. If that’s true of Britain it must be true of other fossil fuel producers too. But of course it isn’t.
JB@DizzyJB

@afneil Benefits are tax revenue and jobs only. This will do nothing to improve energy security or bring bills down, when we remain dependent on the global market. Only investment in renewables will alleviate that dependency long term.

@ACMilandrew @BruceFeldmanCFB There'll be so many west Africans who could be great NFL/NBA players. I remember Lukaku playing for Belgium in 2014 and NFL people were tweeting about how he'd be a linebacker if he'd been born in America. Their athletes are incredible, way ahead of soccer's. This is the biggest freak athlete in this year’s NFL draft. I’d never heard of him till two days ago. He’s from a small village in Nigeria. He is 6-4 1/2, 306 lbs and jumps 10-10. Some folks in the NFL think he’ll go on Day 3 of the draft. Free story: nytimes.com/athletic/71683…
