Super excited about my first, first-author being published the day after my defense! 🥳🥂✨ Keep an eye out for the second half of my PhD research, we're hard at work getting it wrapped up for submission 🙂

Never in my entire life have I actually sent an email at 8:00 AM. If you receive an email from me at 8:00 AM you can rest absolutely assured that I schedule sent that mess at like 1:27 in the morning.

i am so tired of losers and idiots trying to make their failure a national emergency. the essay fucking sucked. you’re not good enough. move on.
TPUSA_OU@TurningPointOU

For a psychology course at the University Oklahoma, Samantha Fulnecky was asked to write a 650-word essay reacting to an article about how people are perceived based on societal expectations of gender. In her essay, Fulnecky argued that traditional gender roles should not be considered stereotypes. She cited the Bible to support her stance that eliminating gender in society would be "detrimental" because that would put people "farther from God's original plan for humans." She received zero points out of 25 on the essay. Transgender professor, Mel Curtis, said Ms. Fulnecky, failed to use empirical evidence/and called parts of her essay offensive. "To call an entire group of people 'demonic' is highly offensive, especially a minoritized population," the instructor wrote in the online grading platform. Fulnecky says she followed the assignment guidelines and should not be penalized for her religious viewpoints. OU officials point to the formal grade-appeal process as the student awaits a decision. We at Turning Point OU stand with Samantha. We should not be letting mentally ill professors around students. Clearly this professor lacks the intellectual maturity to set her own bias aside and take grading seriously. Professors like this are the very reason conservatives can't voice their beliefs in the classroom. Kuddos to Samantha for leading by example and standing up for what she believes in. @UofOklahoma , do better! #universityofoklahoma #trans #woke @ou_president @uofoklahoma @TPUSA @GovStitt @theoudaily @ounightly @SenadorJett @senmullin

@TzinAt1521ce @mtlushan i love how the original tweet is getting reposted on my TL as being insightful when this is like, one of the most moronic & completely predictable takes i’ve ever seen from another “i know a lot about AI/ML, one of the REAL sciences, why would i need to know biology?” dudes

I would say my biggest takesway from spending the last 8 months singlemindedly studying bioML is that understanding the biology actually is important

Dr. Émile P. Torres (they/them)
I do it because I worked unbelievably hard to get that honorific. I tell my students: having a PhD means only one thing: that you--statistically speaking--know more than almost anyone else in the world about one or two narrow topics (and that you worked hard to achieve that
Rob Miles@robertskmiles

It's interesting to compare the people who put "Dr." or ", PhD" in their Twitter username, with those who could but choose not to.

very cool how the current administration’s policies on science/research funding have made my job search as a fresh PhD incredibly stressful, & now, as a result of the shutdown, I get to cross my fingers & hope my cross-country flight for a job interview doesn’t get cancelled!!!

[1/3] Men's testosterone levels did not plummet over the past decade like many wellness podcasts would have you believe... we just switched the measurement assay from immunoassay to mass spectrometry When we switched assays, we observed a ~100% increase in self-reported healthy men with low testosterone. The threshold needed to be updated when the assay changed. Arun AS, Durant TJS, El-Khoury JM, Krumholz HM. Re-evaluating the threshold for low total testosterone. Clinical Chemistry 2025.

Ask not why would you work in biology, but rather: why wouldn't you? owlposting.com/p/ask-not-why-… openai/gemini gave this essay an A- for evocative imagery. claude gave it a C- for being emotionally manipulative. both are probably right. i feel a little sick re-reading it

Huge shoutout to every NIH official grinding non-stop to support researchers and pushing through to meet that Sept 30 award deadline to ensure 100% of the funds are sent. You're the heroes keeping biomedical research alive. Unfortunately politicians are not as good as you are. You should not have to be shutdown, you should not be furloughed. Know that your work is being seen, your dedication is inspiring. We are all behind you, hang in there folks. Thank you, thank you thank you.
