AI lets us prototype new ideas in hours instead of months, but good luck patenting any of it. I legit had a patent lawyer ask me: “what’s stopping an examiner from asking why you didn’t just hire a film student to do what you’re asking your AI model to do?”, for a model built for video editing. I get that they’re probably flooded with more applications that they can handle. But how relevant are patents these days anyway?

My issue with techno-optimist CEOs like him and sama is that they come from privilege, where they get to do jobs out of ‘love’. It’s aspirational, but doesn’t apply to most people who work out of necessity, who can’t pivot as rapidly as they assume, cause they lack the safety net and expertise to. Comes across as extremely out of touch with reality.
