I have been told by Serious People that it is an unfair "purity test" to ask whether your politicians think this behavior — funded by your taxes — is genocidal

The Israeli official and convicted terrorist who just yesterday declared his support for a military unit that assaulted a CNN crew & killed a 78-year-old Palestinian-American is now today drinking champagne to celebrate a new law to execute Palestinians.

I think Zohran's co-opting of efficiency from the right will be seismic for the American socialist project. We need to run a national campaign against The Contractor State—neoliberalism's grand, massively inefficient outsourcing of government functions to private contractors.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Government must deliver for working people—and every dollar in our budget should work as hard as they do. That’s why I directed every agency to cut waste and help close our budget gap. Here’s some of what we found.

If you’re a wonk denying the Gaza genocide, I expect a full paper articulating what you think the International Association of Genocide Scholars got wrong and why we should trust you over the most prestigious expert group on earth.

Will Stancil—fresh off a week calling anyone publicizing Israeli lobby superpac donations antisemitic—says that your (and the international community’s) use of the word Genocide is a little *too* harsh, needs to see way more dead Palestinians before he’ll revisit this matter

Every single adult living in an illegal settlement is knowingly violating international law and is complicit in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. There are no “good, law-abiding” settlers. Choosing not to participate in a pogrom is clearing the lowest moral bar imaginable.
Yaakov Katz@yaakovkatz

I have serious problems with the term “settler violence.” It is a generalization that demonizes a community of 500,000 people - almost all of them are good, law-abiding citizens. But we cannot let that defense blind us. What has been happening in the West Bank - like the attacks by Jewish extremists in some 20 locations last night - is an abomination. These actions are anti-Jewish, they are the antithesis of what it means to be Israeli, and they must be stopped with the most aggressive steps law enforcement has at its disposal. Beyond the moral rot, this is a strategic liability. Israel is in a war against Iran and we have a rare moment to unite a global coalition from the US to Europe to the Gulf, but that support is undermined when these attacks occur. @netanyahu knows this and for that reason he went to the IDF Central Command on Friday to try and stop the violence in the middle of a war that needs to be his sole focus. What these attackers are doing is not just criminal; it is a threat to our national security. We cannot defeat our enemies abroad while a violent fringe undermines our legitimacy from within.

On this day last year, Israel murdered our very dearest and bravest colleague Hossam Shabat in an airstrike in Beit Lahia, north of Gaza. His last words were, "I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza. Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free."

The world energy shock is coming — it will deepen inequality in ways we've seen before. Our new @newstatesman piece argues that without urgent government action, the Strait of Hormuz crisis will ripple through our economies and rip apart our societies. Here's why. 1/

Recently, Israeli forces subjected a one-year-old child to abuse to pressure his father into giving confessions east of Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, according to local and family sources. The child's father, Osama Abu Nassar, suffered psychological trauma after the death of a horse he used for income. While taking his child to buy supplies a few days ago, he was caught in gunfire near his home and forced by soldiers to leave his 18-month-old son on the ground and approach the Israeli checkpoint, where he was stripped of his clothes. According to witnesses, the army then took the child and interrogated the father at the checkpoint. The forces tortured the child in front of his father, including burning with cigarettes on his leg, pricking, and inserting a metal nail into his leg, as confirmed by a medical report. The child, Karim, was released after 10 hours and handed over to his family through the International Red Cross, while the father remains in detention. 📷 Osama Al-Kahlout

THREAD: Cherise Doyley was in her 12th hour of contractions at the hospital when a tablet was brought to her bedside. On the screen was a Zoom call with a judge and several lawyers and doctors. She was in court, a nurse told her. The reason? For failing to agree to a C-section.

I have been reporting on and documenting settler terrorism in the West Bank for three years, and I have never seen anything like this. Tonight’s major pogrom across the West Bank was highly organized and fully backed by the Israeli government and the Israeli army. It did not happen in a vacuum -- it was fueled by incitement from Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, and other Israeli Knesset members. If this tells us anything, it is that this is not the peak; it is a warning of something far worse that may soon unfold in the West Bank: Genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Correct, this is the way the game goes. In the run up to the Iraq war one FAIR study found that of 393 on-air sources, only 3 (less than 1%) were from the antiwar left, meanwhile Pat Buchanan was interviewed a half dozen times, and was THE primary “anti war voice” for US media.
Chase Madar@ChaseMadar

Would Zanny Minton Beddoes have granted an interview to a progressive non- or anti-Zionist like Ta-Nehisi Coates or @YousefMunayyer? I don’t see it. And a network star like Tapper, Cooper or Welker challenging her talking points is unimaginable. Alas that’s left us with Tucker
