Just now: @southshoreline eastbound run #115, the conductor didn’t notice that only the final car door open at Hegewisch so about a dozen people couldn’t get off the train. “You better back this train up to Hegewisch” said one frustrated passenger. Thankfully there happened to be a westbound run immediately coming to Hammond Gateway that shuffled everyone to back to Hegewisch. SSL’s dismal on time performance of 80% does not include massive operation errors like today’s.

And now I had to wait about 10 minute outside of Miller Beach for an westbound train because I guess @southshoreline only uses one of the two new high level platforms.

This is 6050 S. Hermitage Avenue in West Englewood. This photo is from 2011. Since 2014, it has been vacant and boarded up. For 12 years, this multi-unit building was a blight on the community. For 12 years, nobody lived in this multi-unit building. And now after 16 years, it was "Emergency Demolished" by the City of Chicago and the demolition permit is for $31,000. How can we hope to solve the affordable housing crisis if we continue to allow thousands of units of existing naturally occurring affordable housing to be abandoned and demolished every year? NO new vacant lots. Stop the emergency demolition industry. Renovate vacant and abandoned buildings with urgency. Create hundreds of new residential units And allow our communities the chance to heal.

From Streetsblog Massachusetts: Amtrak has applied for $2.7bn in federal funding for additional Airo trainsets. Not sure how many that would be or where they'd all go, but if they are awarded the money it'd be huge.
