The numbers might not look great, but Connor Ingram deserves a lot of credit for this game being tied. Some great stops. Oilers got slow in that period.

I understand that, but my point was that the suspension was a non factor in this case. It happened 3 days after the trade deadline, so the panthers were not able to acquire anyone after his suspension.. and if you do the math, it was the absence of tkachuk’s cap hit (LTIR) which allowed the panthers to go over the cap as much as they did . You take away his 9+ million, and they are under the cap even if you counted ekblad’s contract towards it.

I still can’t believe that Ekblad didn’t count towards the cap during his 20 game suspension for PEDs. It was a gift for the Panthers to add players.

@RazorsInsight @AzorcanGlobal As I understand only suspensions for on ice like hit to head continue to count against the cap while they’re suspended. If they’re suspended for PED’s or gambling etc off ice, their cap hits don’t count against the cap.

This is so misleading. I understand complaining that a guy suspended for PEDs should not be allowed to play in the playoffs. That’s a fair argument for a rule change. However, Ekblads suspension had zero to do with any cap relief. Tkachuk’s LTIR is what allowed Florida to go over the cap, and it was clearly a legitimate injury just like evander kane
