Heading to the Vallelunga circuit near Rome in the new Maserati GranTurismo. This is the Trofeo, with a detuned, 550hp version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo ‘Nettuno’ V6 from the MC20 supercar. Also driving the 490hp Modena V6 and 761hp Folgore electric models later today.

€14.5 million for Schumacher F2003GA. We thought close to €10m but yesterday’s result was off the scale . I was in the room and I can confirm that there were many active bidders for this car.

@stuartg917 I’ve had a few Midgets - first in 1987 and the last in 2020. Nothing reminds you just how great a car can be with a few simple ingredients and without spending stupid money

@torqueman Not back then - 28 years ago, I think I was going to pay £1500 for it. The body and chassis was scrapped but the running gear that could be salvaged was donated to a couple of club racers.

When the seller takes you for a test drive and you get attacked while sat in the passenger seat by a Volvo 480 and W124 Merc (just out of shot). Bought an XR3i instead, which tells you how bad the shock must have been.

@torqueman It was, I'd told the seller (a family friend) I'd buy it regardless of how it drove about 30 seconds before it all kicked off.

Walked into a Swiss airport Rolex store. Flippantly asked if they had a watch for sale. So stunned when they said yes, I ended up buying a revolting watch I really don’t want. Another moment of genius

So, I’m involved in a project that involves a charity tennis game with Roger Federer and Catherine Middleton. You can imagine how well that’s progressing

So, a somewhat eventful weekend racing the Allard J2X Le Mans @Silverclassic. We just about got it running right for race day, had a great run (and a few near disasters), only to be disqualified due to a pitstop irregularly. Sigh. But them's the breaks. We'll be back quicker...
