Interesting thread on the sport's hang ups over professionalism which lasted and held the sport's progress back for over a century. To anyone today the amateurism mentality comes across quite weird. Its legacy still exists today though.

Married to one woman for nearly 60 years, Mueller was a U.S. Marine Corps officer for three years during the Vietnam War. During his service, he led a rifle platoon and was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and two Navy Commendation Medals.

Chuck Norris didn't join the Marine Corps...the Marine Corps applied to him. Heaven’s streets have always been guarded by Marines. Today, Chuck Norris reported for duty. We mourn the passing of Chuck Norris, a @usairforce veteran, who also became an honorary Marine in 2007 when awarded the title by then Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James T. Conway. Chuck Norris is one of just over 100 individuals to be awarded the title of Honorary Marine in the entire 250-year history of the Corps. The Imam al-Mahdi Scouts are "Arab Boy Scouts." That's a good one.
It's a stepping stone to join Hezbollah.
There's plenty of evidence to support my assertion. Like these two young men below who were scouts and Hezbollah fighters.

He's wearing a uniform for the Imam al-Mahdi Scouts (part of the Lebanese Scouting Federation). That's Hizballah's scout troupe. It is and has been used as a feeder for the group for future militant believers in their cause. Written a lot about this (See attached).

Today, in Iran, in the middle of a war, the regime executed a 19-year-old national wrestling champion for the crime of joining January protests. 💔
After signaling to the world, including President @realDonaldTrump, that they would halt executions of protesters, the regime has done the exact opposite.
Three young protesters, Saleh Mohammadi, Mehdi Ghasemi, and Saeed Davoudi, were hanged in Qom after a sham trial.
Reports indicate torture. Forced confessions. No access to chosen lawyers. Closed-door proceedings. No right to appeal.
I call on @GlobalAthleteHQ to stand with Iranian athletes who are being silenced, imprisoned, and executed simply for raising their voices.
This is not just about sports. This is about human dignity.
