A sign of emotional intelligence is moving from “You made me feel” to “This is how I reacted.” Our emotions aren’t caused by other people’s actions. They’re shaped by our interpretations. Blaming others gives them power over our feelings. Taking responsibility empowers us.

@JamesClear Love this, @JamesClear! We always say, “You are stronger than this situation.” The way you’ve articulated it is perfect. :)

A valuable skill in life is to be larger than the situation. When you're feeling stressed or rattled, the situation is consuming you. It feels bigger and more important than it needs to be. This is when your emotions are likely to get the best of you. But when you are larger than the situation, you can mentally "step outside and above it." Yes, there are problems to be solved. Yes, you need to take action. But the chaos is happening externally and you are still in the driver's seat internally. You're in control of the moment, the moment is not in control of you.

‘26 RHP/SS Gus Reid @BaseballOntario Reid was dominant out of the pen going 3 2/3 innings with 5 strikeouts. Attacked and controlled the strike zone with the FB that was up to 84 mph while mixing in a SL & CH that kept hitters off-balance. Strong follow this week. #BeSeen🇨🇦

I’ve been thinking about this as the new school year approaches. Do we say we value collaboration but then celebrate individuals? Instead of Teacher of the Month, how about Team of the Month? Thoughts? #education #k12 #pauseponderpersist

When kids are deprived of play, their mental health suffers. Over the past 50 years, the time kids spend playing outside and inside has plummeted. They're missing opportunities to bond, build self-control, be creative, and feel joy. Free play is a key to happiness and growth.

Takeaway from today’s talk: When we think about emotion regulation, we jump to strategies that require time & planning like biking or gardening. But regulation often starts w/ strategies like breathing to deactivate & reframing to shift our thoughts, which help in the moment.

On modeling self-regulation through tone of voice: “The sweet spot is calm, neutral, assertive, and the teachers who get the best responses from kids are the ones that have mastered that the best," says Cynthia Robinson-Rivers of Van Ness Elementary in Washington, DC.

"When I like the teacher, I want to do their work. And I'll be like, 'I can learn this.'" Students who feel safe and supported by adults at school are better able to learn, research shows. #HowLearningHappens

How special to hear from Barbara Frederickson and her team! The research is clear that when we feel a sense of safety & belonging, we experience more positivity resonance! And, of course, these moments of connection improve our health & wellbeing. #IPPAWorldCongress
