In the new #Fallout tv-series there is this "Dane" character. Dane acts like a boy but is very obviously a girl. Acts girly, sounds girly, looks like a girl. What is the reason for her pretending to be a guy? No info about Dane's reasons for the pretense has been given in season1

@YourWaifu Exactly. The character tries to come off as a boy. But it's still a very girly performance and not believable. "Acts like a boy" means you try to come off as male gender. "Acts girly" means feminine mannerisms. "Girly"isn't a gender it's a descriptive word for something feminine

This is pretending something is something it isn't. Having a gay or trans character is fine. It's when the audience have to pretend they don't see what they see that there is a problem.

@YourWaifu Context matters. The character is played in a way that is supposed to come off as a guy. The actress fails in this because she is a woman and speaks, acts, moves and looks like a woman. She does not make a believable man. Did that help you comprehend?
