@RJP_RAR @LeekNabers @RyanGarciaESM That’s what makes baseball so fascinating. When does human instinct supersede calculation? That’s a critical question throughout all of the human experience. The new world of baseball is built on defying built-in biases and staying disciplined.

@ChrisCoop_ Well said. I think that it will require Kilby and or Lagrange plus others and I just don’t want them to do that. I personally value outlook and control over high risk high reward. Rice and Cam extend the window indefinitely and that will also factor in. No need for desperation rn

I do agree with a lot you said; it’s the reason why I avoided this topic for so long because I felt the same way as you. Not only do the dodgers have 5-6 unbelievably talented OF prospects, they have controllable MLB ready arms to give to Detroit as well. And it just doesn’t have the feel of a cashman deadline. Cashman NEVER gives into to any of these deadline bidding wars, especially when there’s even more lucrative surplus going against him from other teams…he hasn’t really given in. But then I changed my mind a little on the fact that I think it a lot more attainable than one might think. For starters, it is a rental at the end of the day and regardless of the caliber of player, we rarely see a rental at the deadline go for what’s being thrown around on twitter; it’ll take far less than the speculation we are seeing on twitter. It’s just ingrained in the nature of ACTUAL front office trade evaluations since all 30 teams have their own start/end negotiation ask AND have their own FV gradings for prospects around the league. With that being said, if there’s even a semblance of care that GMs will have with regards to “winning” and “losing” a trade for Skubal, both the Yankees and Dodgers will have enough FV to match Skubal’s and at that point it becomes a matter of whether the tigers prefer the Yankees pitching or the dodgers position prospects. Now let’s say there isn’t any care to “winning” or “losing” this trade and both teams act on their surplus. Obviously the dodgers have more fire power but I think the Yankees have enough surplus (and the recent history to back said surplus working at the MLB level) in their pitching depth and major league roster to operate at. It’s not like the dodgers are going to just offer 4 of their top OF prospects for Skubal straight up in the latter stages of the bidding…the teams will have some limit point. And I think it’s feasible and plausible for Cashman to operate at that limit. Not to mention, the dodgers aren’t going to just dump half their top 100 list into Detroit for a position of not need when there are LEGITIMATE outfield question marks in LA that will need to be answered by presumably their system in the next few years. That brings the question of his history of NOT doing this like I mentioned before. And that’s the million dollar question, will Cashman all the sudden just negate his entire history of being conservative at the deadline and make a big push? And truthfully, I think it’s most possible this year out of any. Last year REALLY surprised me - thoroughly. Cash traded 17 top 30 prospects for what (was considered at the time) for an immense overdo of a superpen + FOUR position players, three of them not being “necessities.” This year, they’ve seemed to act with more urgency than ever and I think they know the clock is ticking on Judge’s window and that the AL is just so weak this year + this is the best Yankee roster in this era, this is a MUST all in year

My personal two conditions: 1) No George, full stop. I think you can put together a package without George considering Skubal is a rental and there’s not only been a lot of success with Yankee pitching prospects across the league but there are plenty with good pedigrees in the system to work with. 2) To warrant ponying up a big package, return back to being pre-injured Skubal. So far, we’ve seen two mediocre starts from Skubal, including one against a subpar Cleveland offense that he has usually dominated in his career. These next few weeks (yes, he plays the Yankees twice in a 7 day span), we need to see signs he’s god dam fucking Tarik Skubal. And most importantly, 6 games against the tigers this next week. You HAVE to bury these guys and force them to sell. The AL is so bad that there’s hope right now for them to make a run. Yankees are in control of this outcome.
Everything Yankees@eyyankees

The Yankees & Dodgers are expected to be the most active teams in their pursuit of Tarik Skubal, according to Ken Rosenthal.

@ChrisCoop_ Correction: I don’t think there’s zero chance we’re in it. We can certianly build an offer in a vacuum. But we just can’t compete with the relative value of the Dodgers top guys. Their org surplus is absurd and everyone knows it will get very messy if we try to compete

@ChrisCoop_ Well it will certainly be a very interesting market I gotta admit and idk how the recent decline in rental tax will play into it. Very unique circumstances; arms race and all that. Cashman isn’t going past his ankles in this however and it’s funny to see people speculate.

There are real people existing on this planet who think the Yankees FO will magically give up on all the sunk costs and work they’ve put in to develop Lombard for what is strictly speaking 1 guaranteed start in a single playoffs from an ace who will never wear pinstripes again.

Another thing that makes it even weirder is his underlying metrics agree with this!! Ames Rosario wOBA vs LHP through the years: 2021- .361 2022- .342 2023- .331 2024- .320 2025- .349 2026- .306 One thing to note is Amed did tweak his swing this offseason. Maybe that is playing a factor?

Rosario’s splits are confusing this season.

@RJP_RAR @LeekNabers @MarcoDa00046802 @RyanGarciaESM I think ur just conflating the fan perspective with the actual managerial one. Teams are managed on quasi-financial model, and its an outright horrific financial decision to give away a controllable and highly productive long term asset for such little control and high risk

@RJP_RAR @LeekNabers @RyanGarciaESM Young top 5-10 prospects are almost invaluable assets. Especially shortstops. The Yankees would have to be okay with expending many, many 10’s of millions of projected on field value to increase one season WS odds by a few percentage points. It’s bad business, plain and simple.

@RJP_RAR @LeekNabers @RyanGarciaESM Find me an instance of a true top-10 blue chip prospect being traded for a pure rental at the deadline. It’s virtually never happened, and the Yankees FO aren’t going to be the first to do it.

@RyanGarciaESM Lombard + Warren is not an option if that’s the cost. No one employed in MLB would ever make that deal.

There are genuinely so many episodes of MadMen where the only engine of the plot is the magnitude of Don’s incredibly predictable and inhuman sense for deceit and immorality and lust. It’s like a fucking soap opera sometimes.

So elite baseball players having year-round access to top-level nutrition, strength and conditioning programs and baseball skill instruction is a bad thing because the point of those things is…winning games ? Truly insane take.
Thomas Nestico@TJStats

The purpose of MiLB is to develop talent and MLB’s proposal is offloading that task to colleges. Schools have an incentive to win, which intrinsically conflicts with player development. These proposed changes are counterproductive and only act as a way for owners to save money

@williegandalf And a system that has long needed adjustment is going to undergo adjustment. 96 high school players were drafted last year. MLB stats have 75% of drafted high school players from 2012-2019 didn’t advance to the major leagues. Correction in the system is needed.

@briancrice Dude are you serious. 615 players were drafted last year. Thats more than every roster spot of all 16 SEC teams combined. All P4 schools combined accounted for 43% of draftees. Mid-majors are absolutely not fully funding their entire roster.

@williegandalf No, I live in reality, where P4 schools are giving their entire roster full scholarships. If a school isn’t doing that, I would love to know, because that would be a great recruiting advantage for the other teams in their conference.
