@PeterVecsey1 @88_jm2 @RealErnieGreen And he influenced a fourth nickname: I asked Chuck Foreman, the ‘Spin Doctor’, where he got his moves. He told me from watching Earl Monroe while growing up in Maryland.

"Harry Caray would tell the story of a beaten down Stan Musial going hitless in a Sunday doubleheader.
The heat was unbearable that day — hell could not be much hotter than a St. Louis summer day — and after the game Stan Musial walked gingerly to his car.
He looked beaten down.
He looked beat up.
Musial never seemed to think of baseball as a job, but a daytime doubleheader in St. Louis might have made him think twice about it.
'Watch this', Caray said to a friend as they watched the scene, and sure enough when Musial got to the car, there were a hundred kids waiting for him an autograph.
Stan leaned against his hot car and signed every one.
As Harry Caray stated on Stan’s last major league at bat in 1963:
“Take a look fans, take a good long look; remember his swing and the stance ... we won’t see his like again.”

SEVENTEEN times in the Top 5 in batting average.
SIXTEEN times in the Top 5 in on-base percentage.
THIRTEEN times in the Top 5 in slugging percentage.
NINE times the league leader in runs created.
SIXTEEN times in his career Musial hit 30 or more doubles.
Four other times Musial hit better than .350.
Four other times he hit more than 46 doubles.
Stan Musial hit double digit triples eight times in all, he hit 30-plus homers five times, he walked more than twice as often as he struck out.

@PeterVecsey1 @88_jm2 @RealErnieGreen There is no nickname in the history of sports better than "Rashweed"

Who has two hours to hear me talk about the idiotic timeout he called 2015 WCSF G6 against Houston up 19 which allowed them to regroup and eventually win when they were totally dead in the water?

@PeterVecsey1 @88_jm2 @RealErnieGreen Probably the least selfish player I ever watched. Under appreciated.

@PeterVecsey1 @88_jm2 @RealErnieGreen I met Mr Monroe at a promotional event once and when i said "the original magic", he turned to me and said "a man that knows his basketball".
He was right!

@DeepakN16418348 @88_jm2 @RealErnieGreen In Philly, yes. Same re Black Jesus. Fans would chant it when Earl entered gym to play. Earl was Pearl at Winston Salem and as a Bullet…

@PeterVecsey1 @88_jm2 @RealErnieGreen Since you used the word lifted I just wanted to be clear that Magic didn’t give himself the nickname. Even though Earl had a lot of nicknames wasn’t the main one Earl the Pearl at least among mainstream (mostly white) NBA fans at the time? Was Earl called “Magic” in the papers?
