City of Tshwane: Roads & Transport Progress Address

It gives me great pride to stand before you today to reflect on the tangible progress we have made in strengthening and improving our city’s infrastructure, particularly our road network and transport systems, over the past year.
Infrastructure is the backbone of development. Roads, bridges, transport systems, and stormwater networks form the foundation upon which a city grows. They connect us to workplaces, schools, clinics, and the opportunities that shape our social and economic well-being. When infrastructure fails, so too does a city’s ability to thrive, serve its people, and attract investment.
A year ago, we made a firm commitment to accelerate Road resurfacing. Today, I am proud to report that we have resurfaced over 220 kilometres of road across all seven regions of the City of Tshwane as part of our reactive maintenance. Of the 18,067 potholes reported during this period, 14,072 have been repaired, representing a 78% completion rate. Further 78 Km of roads have resurfaced (proactive maintenance). As I stand before you the city has huge proactive maintenance of over 650 km of roads requiring resurfacing.
It is against this background that we will continuously work to resurface roads and reduce the extent of maintenance backlog.
