@8teAPi @sama At some point in the distant past, he had mentioned he did. Something like “if people knew who my alt was…”

I am now convinced that @sama has an alt which has been rapid poasting in the wild. It is impossible for anyone to get to this power level without practice

When naming things, don't think about what to call them. Think about what you'd call the opposite, then the opposite of that. I don't know why this works, but it does.

@emollick When far away from the goal, best to focus on progress achieved. When close, best to focus on what remains. This is why!

A neat finding about motivation & the growth of companies: As they approach widely-watched revenue thresholds (the key example being $100M in revenue) the firm seems to put on a burst of speed as managers focus on the goal rather than other factors. Growth briefly accelerates.

Have you ever pair programmed with a plant? It's nice because they start with root access

@ID_AA_Carmack Do you eat string cheese in strings, or just pop it in your mouth and take a bite?

Some Amazon Happy Belly process engineer needs to pay a little more attention to preventing the “easy open peel apart” films from getting plastic welded together in manufacturing.

@steveruizok I think is this called “adaptive reuse” and the paired concept is the “reach” of any given tool.

In Figma, many teams use emoji in page titles to mark a page’s status (in progress, complete, etc). It’s an example of users creating a feature for themselves in the “wiggle room” provided by the application’s other features. What do you call this? Where else have you seen it?

@emollick There’s an intuitive argument we will see gains as far as our quality training data goes. Improvement will continue in disciplines where the production of new high quality training data is most possible and affordable

I think AI will transform work because it already is capable of doing so. And this year is likely to push things much further. But will gains continue year-on-year order of magnitude improvements? Maybe, but no one knows for sure, and there is not enough data for predictions.

Predicting technological growth is hard: just because a technology is improving exponentially doesn’t mean that this will continue. Look at this chart projecting the future of airplane speeds from the 1950s, during a time of exponential technological gains. Then look at reality.

Huge safari release. Why? Apple argued if developers don't like its offer to take 30% of their revenue, there's always the "highly capable" safari ios to fall back on. Of course, then people started asking, "is it capable?" The answer? absolutely not infrequently.org/2023/02/safari…

I got the chance to speak at @RubyConfMini back in November on building solo, something I've done for good portions of my career. This talk is everything I would tell younger me, just getting started, crammed into 30 minutes. youtube.com/watch?v=nBygy-…

@Noahpinion It’s going to be really bad for everyone. Except those who take out debt to buy hard assets & have the debt collapse. Then will be an interesting moment where there will be a degree of freedom on how to rebuild the system

@Noahpinion Foreign currencies are losing strength vs $. Since they must service debt in USD, there will be an up as they try to acquire & then a down when there’s not enough. At the end, the fed will start printing so much to prevent collapse/supply usd to other countries…
