Lee’s amendment got 50 votes. McConnell, Tillis & Murkowski voted no. Susan Collins joined them on the earlier SAVE America Act vote, but Lee’s amendment was slightly different because it mirrors the House-passed bill. Collins voted yes this time

When you handily lose a state so many times in a row you start to build up a defense mechanism by not letting yourself hope it might flip in the future.
That all being said — if there was ever a time for Democrats to win a Senate seat in Iowa, this is the year.
Between the favorable national environment, the open seat, Rob Sand being a juggernaut in the other marquee statewide race, having a nominee who can raise serious money with a compelling personal story, sky high inflation, and Trump fucking over farmers in every way imaginable — the stars are as aligned as they are ever going to get.

Wow. This is a big poll in that a good pollster has both Brown and Acton over 50. Something to watch: in 2006, when Brown beat an incumbent senator big, the bottom dropped out on Mike DeWine in June. So watch what polls come next.

On the baseline: if it moved, it's slight. Iowa was 10.5 points to the right of the nation in 2016 & 11.74 to the right in 2024. Very reasonable to think that the environment could be 1 point worse for Rs than 2018 & Hinson isn't an incumbent governor.

of course 13 points is a giant hole to dig out of, and Dems said the same things about Iowa in '18 only to again fall short in the guv race. The state's baseline is redder now than it was then. And Hinson is considered a stronger candidate than any of the GOP guv nominees
