I try not to enjoy the pleasures of schadenfreude but people ignoring advice and planning travel to Japan in the height of summer is an exception.

Every time I see this BoM page I shed a tear for the lack of IT expertise in government. Happy new year :)

Grief is exhausting. You just get through being sad because it’s Christmas season, and then it’s time for being sad because of birthday and wedding anniversary season, only to roll into being sad because this is when it all went down time.

For context, Jimmy Whelan is a pro rider. Spends a lot of his time in Girona, Spain and across Europe. We all know how bad the road culture is here, and we just accept it.

@disco___cat The overseas (UK at least) perception is that Aussies are relaxed and fluid with rules. The reality is a bunch of dobbers horny for rules

The Australian impulse to ban everything in sight is quite hard to culturally adapt to as a migrant unless you are already that way inclined - I wonder if people who are primarily motivated by safety v freedom will move here in larger numbers further reinforcing it over time?

@Andrew_Godman Cars do suck. Though I enjoy the extreme schadenfreude of sailing past gridlocked traffic

@Anna_Cook When I worked in the CBD I rode to work from Thornbury then later Preston after moving for about 1.5 years. It was quicker, cheaper and I got very fit. I don’t know why people have such an issue with biking infrastructure. Cars suck

The year is 2058. The Melbourne bike lanes have been ripped up and reinstalled for the 62nd time. The average daily temperature is 45° and trees no longer exist but the council is still unsure on the viability of sustainable transport

@Anna_Cook Cars… still can’t fly and the new government is a reformed vape importer with a firebombing policy so the heat is all good.

@Anna_Cook Because there is no right turn I'm guessing. Normally cycling in London is faster than driving so merging right is not as dangerous as in Melbourne

@ksyd2015 Unfortunately results were inconclusive so the pedestrians were painted grey as a compromise

@Anna_Cook But there are half a dozen community consultation projects underway to get at least 200 submissions from local residents (only citizens who own property) about which grey colour to paint the edge of the sidewalks with.

@Anna_Cook Or it could go the other way where the water level rises, leading us to kayak from A to B. The state government mandates helmets to keep us safe.

@Anna_Cook But on a more positive note, the state government has just announced another bold new plan to build a train to the airport to be completed by 2070.

In 2011 we gave away 500 new bicycles to residents of Coburg and Pascoe Vale (at Coburg North Primary School) as part of our O'Hea Bike Town project. Did you get an O'Hea Bike Town bike? We'd love to hear from you if you did! PM us or email committee@morelandbug.org
