Edmonton was a modest city offering a modest way of life. A comfortable place to start a family and become part of a community. We have nothing to offer here. We all know it and we choose to live here anyway. Why? It's beautiful. It's our city. It's home. But it's Edmonton. Now we have little city politicians with big city dreams attempting to turn Edmonton into Vancouver or Toronto without a single amenity to make any of the sacrifices worth it. However, they severely underestimated the strong community we have built, and how it won't be quite as easy as they thought to just give away our city to the highest bidder.

We are ready for any conversation on how to ensure this. There is an obvious, simplest, and most reliable way: stop missile and long-range drone attacks. That alone would automatically ensure the safety of all civilian infrastructure. A ceasefire — real and lasting — must be the first step toward a secure and enduring peace. Ukrainian representatives — both at the meetings held in Paris and at the meetings scheduled this week in London — will have a primary task regarding an unconditional ceasefire. That must be the starting point. Peace begins in silence.
