@BarackObama @NASAArtemis These are the faces of the first 4 people to ever step on the moon by the way

English

What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Russia had nuclear armed submarines off the coast of Cuba and was ready to strike in case a war went off.
The U.S. dropped “depth charges” to try and expose these submarines and bring them to the surface.
One problem, the guys in the Soviet submarine thought the nuclear war had already started based on the “depth charges” and were ready to strike.
Soviet protocol was that they needed agreement from the 3 leaders on board to approve the strike. They could not contact anyone from the USSR at that depth so they were given full autonomy.
2 leaders approved the strike, Arkhipov opposed, believing correctly it was just “depth charges” going off….
The nuclear strike was avoided, and all thanks to one man that is mostly forgotten by history….
The lesson there is that at the end of the day orders have to be carried out by people… pray that orders and responsibility fall down to men who have the sense to use that authority wisely and understand the gravity of the situation they are in…

@SteveSaretsky REITs are responsible for many of the issues around housing. When something as basic as housing became an investment vehicle, this was sure to happen. The government once tried to do away with REITs but imtense lobbying stopped it.

@acoyne This post was a comment on another post by Andrew Coyne, that seems to have disappeared. It doesn't relate to surge pricing in groceries.
English

@acoyne It is democracy in action. The Longest Ballot Committee is using it as a protest demanding electoral reform. Right or wrong. I don't have an opinion other than that Pierre Polievre talked to the Convoy (friends) but complains about this (not friends).

@elonmusk It chronicles Juan Pizarro's soldiers finding evidence of indiginous peoples having printed writings which they destroyed and denied the exitence of, because only the writings of the Church were permitted at that time.

@acoyne My opinion is that tolls are good up until the point that they lead to excess profit. The Cobequid Pass section of the TCH in NS was built with tolls. Toll are now gone except for trucks and out-of-province cars. To me, it is a good way to get a highway or a bridge built.
English

We have GOT to get past this populist aversion to pricing. Prices are how we run our economy. Prices are the key to good resource use. Prices tell us the real costs of things, and encourage us to use them sparingly. Without prices we are stumbling about in the dark.

@elonmuskTN C. Don't know. You need a third choice. I have been a Twitter user since 2009. I know there have been changes since you bought it but the changes have not affected me. So, I don't know.

@fordnation @elonmusk @Starlink Why is it that the Starlink technology has not been duplicated by competitors and governments? I am concerned that much of the world, and now Ontario, is coming to rely on one privately owned company for this essential service. Canada is a space nation and we should step up.
English

We’re partnering with @elonmusk’s @Starlink to use the latest technology to bring high-speed internet to 15,000 more homes and businesses in remote areas across Ontario.

@maxfawcett European countries have national broadcasters. Australia and New Zealand too. The reasons to maintain the CBC remain strong, same as they do in most the world. Any intention to defund the CBC is purely political.
English

Red alert, folks. If you care about the CBC, it's time to face up to this.
Harrison Lowman@harrisonlowman
“Word on the Ottawa streets is that Conservative leader, and likely next prime minister, Pierre Poilievre, has now finished crafting his plan for the CBC. This week, I was told by a well-placed Conservative that Poilievre intends to eliminate all funding for the English arm of the broadcaster. And that he’ll do it in his first 100 days in office.”
